About to go on Cape buffalo hunt, guns and calibers?

Once you have their attention use a pocket knife on the juggler vein :)

The knife thing on a buffalo has already been done:

"I plan on going in the summer, such as July"

if you dont mind me saying but that seems a bit vague, and as its so close to when you want to do your buff hunt you must have made contact with an operator, and be on the verge of booking i would have thought? :E Hmmm:
Yep I've already booked, leaving the 27 of July

As I have done lots of hunting before. I've hunted elk in Utah a couple of years ago. Also, I've tried hunting black bear. I know, I know, it may seem vague but I'm leave the 27 of July, so I don't have much time. A buddy of mine has a couple of rifles we've been shooting lately, just to practice and I'm going to get one of his, which is a CZ 550 .375 H&H. I really love that rifle, so I think I'm going to get that. Thank you!

My dude booked this thunk a couple months ago, I thought that I would have enough time for picking out my gear. Next time I won't procrastinate!

That sounds like a good idea! As does getting a 375 H&H.

Be sure to keep us posted as things come together and for darn sure we want to see a hunt report!

Good luck!

Grab-A-Gun sells CZ-550's. I just bought their last synthetic stocked version in 375H&H. The only one in stock is the hump-backed version of the stock configuration.

That about says it.

Good luck.

Welcome aboard!. I'm with the others on calibre selection also. For a first time DG rifle with the ability to tag a few PG's the 375H&H is perfect as long as you do your part with shot placement. I do think along the same lines as Witold. I like the 404 Jeffery. I have a 9.3 x 62, 375 H&H, 416 Rigby, 404 Jeffery (almost built), and 450 Rigby. It would be a tough choice as to which rifle(s) I would take to Africa. I can shoot all of them well. The 450 needs a bottle of Tylenol though when practicing with it!
I also have an 8x68 also I would probably use that for PG and the 404 for DG...no wait....I would use the 416...no the.....darn it...too many decisions. It's like being at a buffet and not knowing what to take next!

$1034.11 + $5.95 shipping to your FFL dealer. Impact guns has none.

The other issue is that you may want a scope. CZ's accommodate "quick detachable" scope mounts. You will need to order the Warne High scope mounts, specifically for the CZ550. I received mine from Brownell's: Item #947000072 in 1-inch configuration. A Nikon 2.5-10 zoom seemed nice. The lens hood will not fit unless you cut out a square of material at the bottom to accommodate the iron sights. See the picture.

You will find the CZ trigger a delight to use and it also has the set-trigger feature if you can control your shaking! You will need to polish the bolt to smooth the action.

With all that said, I have never shot my two (to be rectified very shortly) and have never hunted in Africa.

my apologies for wondering if you were for real or a time waster :D Beers:

good thinking :E Big Grin:. plenty of info on gear on here, but dont worry about it as much as some do on here ;) as you dont need as many "things" as some believe.....the cz in .375 is good for everything and you like it which is great. enjoy your first african adventure. who are you going to hunt with and which area? :D Cheers:

Why hell that is the big time! You have to take a 375 on that hunt! And you best take it seriously young man, that is a very special opportunity!!! If you shoot the aforementioned gun well, you "have" to have that gun for this hunt. Seriously!

Hello, My wife and I hunted with Marius 2 years ago. He fit us into his schedule after a different outfitter "bailed" on us. He was always very good with communications and although we didn't end up meeting him personally, he called us multiple times during our hunt to make sure things were going well. We were very happy with him.

Reach out to the guys at Epic Outdoors.

They will steer you right for landowner tags and outfitters that have them.

I have held a membership with them for years and they are an invaluable resource.

Way better that asking random people on the internet...WAY better

Skydiver386,

Did you ever find your 30-06 CZ550? I own a fairly solid conditioned one, if you wanted to talk.
