Good morning everyone,

Your friendly, young, IL resident here. So when I first joined AH I was really interested in how to financially set myself up for a long hunting career. I can say that I have been successful, but with a wrinkle.

Originally, I started posting about how everyone saves and invests for life/hunting adventures. My wife and I busted our humps for nearly 2 years (would’ve been shorter, but I totaled my pickup during an icy commute home).

We are now in fantastic shape, but now we had a new issue. We started working on building a family and found out that my wife had some medical issues. So we are working on using IVF to start our family.

Moral of the story, it is funny that everyone gave me amazing financial advice. So we can afford this process now instead of waiting to save up to cover medical expenses. I will still get my shot at the dark continent. It will just be a little further down the road. Having a family/children is obviously more important than a hunting trip.

Thanks for all of the good advice. It is also always nice to live vicariously through you all who post your hunt reports. Keep them coming and keep me entertained for a while longer!

Time and fate will fall into place.

Betcha dollars to donuts you get there before I did. (age 56) I am sitting in Johannesburg as I type this, heading home from number 2.

You have a healthy perspective. Stay the course - it'll happen.

Anyone worth a pinch of piss will tell you changing a baby while making her/him giggle absolutely blows away a Cape buffalo hunt. One shot and you're done, whereas you'll have a lifetime making your kid laugh and love. Almost forgot those late night feedings in the rocker when the little stinker suddenly stops sucking and grins at you around the nipple. Shit, that just made me cry. I'm headed to Africa for the fourth time in August and I would trade places with you in a heartbeat. Well ... maybe not the baby making end of it. I'll leave some of the fun to you. :D

Good luck with IVF. Glad you had the money tucked away somewhere to make your dreams happen whatever they are. I had four kids before I got to africa-which is just to say that it will happen for you, and it will be worth it when it does. Look forward to good news from you in the future.

Now where is that report from Tundra Tiger?!

I was told by my grandfather before he passed that his shining achievement wasn’t money or status. It was his children that he raised, loved, and saw become amazing people. So I learned quickly my own selfish desires are worthless. My family I build and leave behind is far more important. So, money to me doesn’t matter without my wife and I building our family.

I loved your reply.

Nothing wrong in hunting deer/elk near home either. Small game/varmints, are fun & not usually expensive.

Unfortunately, no elk near home. I can say though that IL does have some of the finest whitetail hunting in NA. I actually just received my tags for firearm and muzzleloader season yesterday.

Proverbs 3:5-6

New International Version

5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.[

My wife and I were very blessed and fortunate to get our second child with our first round of IVF, and I very much hope the same type of experience for you and your bride. This morning I get to celebrate Father's Day with that girl who is now 16 years old, and I hope that you will be having similar experiences in no time at all. Best wishes! :)

Thanks so much! She is recovering from a procedure that took place on Friday. I’m hoping that we can be in the group that is successful on the first try.

Also, Happy Father’s Day!

After two kids and a tubal ligation, we did IVF for another and it worked the first time so I think your chances are great! We doubled up and had twins - boy and a girl that are now 27 years old. Good luck to you!

Appreciate the support! I joked with my wife that we could have twins and just shut down the baby factory in 1 year. Time will tell.

We had twins (boy and girl) too. I will admit they did delay my first trip to Africa (this year), but I'm confident they were well worth the wait. The joy I received watching them catch their first fish or harvest their first animal is indescribable. They are now by far my favorite outdoor partners. I wish you the best!

May the LORD bless you and your wife!!

Good luck with the IVF, my wife and I have walked that road. It can be extremely tough & challenging but the rewards are priceless. I wish you all the strength and may you and you wife be blessed.

Good luck to you and your wife. Kids are quite the blessing and will teach you a lot about yourself while you try to teach them. Mine are 8 and 10 now and we are all headed to Africa for the first time next June. I hope someday you can take your family to Africa. Honestly I am looking forward to our trip next year more than any other hunt I’ve ever done and it’s because my wife and kids are going with not because I finally get to see Africa.
