A fun article about Bob's 2nd favorite caliber

I'm partial to the 6mm Remington over the .243. View attachment 409291
They screwed that one up big time. Advertising fail was just the beginning.
Yeah, but you gotta know @Bob Nelson 35Whelen to pull 243WIN kinda crap around here. :cool:
Yeah you gotta know the guy to expand beyond the man bun hating. There's no random fecal disruption allowed around here... :A Tease:
I agree but Winchester had the advantage in advertising
Advertising was just the start. They had the twist in the barrels wrong at 1-12" instead of 1-9" at original release. This limited bullets to a 90 grain max and shutting the door on antelope and thin skinned game in the mind of hunters at the time. Bummer, but those three years of headstart were all that was needed for the .243 to stay and the 6mm/.244 to fade into history.

All that said, we love Bob (and hate him just a little bit for incessantly trying to wedge yet another round onto our reloading benches). That internal struggle of .357 plinking loads counters with you'd have to sell all the .30-06's and .300's to make it useful just doesn't seem to compute for me. It took a silencer purchase for me to get into my latest niche round (hopefully last .300BLK/Whisper/7.62x35).

The only thing I find more annoying than the 6.5 manbun hype is the way it causes all the other calibers that have been getting it done for a while now to be overlooked. That really gets me wound up because there becomes no reverence for the past and old rifles are deemed worthless. You can very easily tell the intellect of the party you converse with by how artfully they bash other calibers or don't. Sadly I have been less than sharp at times myself coming late into several nice calibers due to inherited bias, but the Creedmoor kids need to get back in their smart cars and head to the latte stand. I write this with my .300BLK faux-bine by my side equipped with suppressor, red dot sight, back up irons, sling and light living out my video game fantasy myself. In a moment I'll fold it all up into its hippie bag and go to the latte stand and ask the Creedmoor kid where Creedmoor is.

Seems like an opportunity for those of us who appreciate the classic calibers!

Tbitty that 200 Gr. Hornady Superformance load will get your attention!! Don't say I didn't warn you. I like my 225 & 250 Gr. loads a hell of a lot better.

I'm on the hunt for some dies (and some of that magic ccf223 powder I keep hearing about) so I can load up some 225 and 250 gr options and see how they perform for me.

@Tbitty
If @Shootist43 thinks the superformance load gets your attention try a 250 grain at 2,700 fps, now that gets your attention.
Bob

I've got some Varget, H4895, IMR 4895 and 4064 on hand, so several good options to play with until I find the CFE223.

To those in the know, the 6.5 Creed is just a 6.5 x 55 "wannabe." BTW I'm surprised that Bob hasn't suggested this thread be removed for spreading lies and misinformation!! I agree with you Von Gruff, just about any 6.5 beats a Creedmoor.
I had a 6.5x55 Swedish and prosecuted deer pigs goats chamois with it, no fuss, no bother. Only reason I sold it was it weighed more than two 505Gibbs strapped together.

@Cervus elaphus
What were they charged with B&E, assault, drink driving or something else.
I hope as prosecutor you won the case. I've never heard of a deer being prosecuted for anything before. Must be a kiwi thing. In Australia we shoot them.
Ha ha ha ha ha.

Found guilty of being either good to eat or looking nice hung on the mancave wall.

They put a mental hospital on that land, did they not?

Cervus Elaphus have you ever shot three position small bore with a "Target Grade" 22 LR? They are in fact heavy and almost as accurate as a Swede!

Not one of those heavy competition ones no, but I did own an Anschutz 22mag that was very very accurate. Oddly enough, the crappy Chinese Norinco 22LR, made from recycled railway tracks and butter box timber, once tidied up, ie metalwork with rough bits filed smooth and the stock taken off, free floated and fitted properly, was very accurate. Another 22mag I owned was a heavy barrel Stirling which was also accurate except the trigger was heavy and sluggish.

We're you describing yourself or the trigger. I thought it was you nowdays. Heavy and sluggish.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
