9.3x64 Brenneke

RWS is weird, even by European gun trade circles.

I would say that they are producing ammunition for the war in Ukraine, and that is why they are booming but not doing much else. I don't know that to be true, but that seems to be the reason.

They also just got bought out by Beretta. So I don't know what that will mean for the future.

I was told the Italians are only interested in producing profitable ammunition. So I think there will be a downward spiral for RWS back to these cartridges if we are lucky.

9,3x62

The most popular cartridges in Europe, and a few military ones.

Then there is the fairly popular group, probably produced on a couple of runs a year.
8x67 JRS
8x68 S
9,3x74R
7x65R
7x57
7x57R
375 H&H

I was told all the rare metric ones were going to be over. Or at minimum rarely produced.

9,3x64
404 Jeff
10,75x68

And the 10,3x68 which were supposed to be to be « the all new one cartridge for everything anywhere , then it stopped suddenly . No mention of the 400 grain bullets , no audacity in saying «yes we copied a 40 + year old US wildcat «

.404 and 10,75 they stopped making many years ago at Rws as I know btw .

They didn't actually copy anything. Peter Vonow is the "inventor", and Johanes Dickhoff who I also believe is Swiss who worked for RWS got it going.

The problem Per is that you might see it as a big stopper. I have two of them and I see it more in the lines of the 400 Whelen.

I am shooting all weights of bullets from the Woodleigh 400's to the RWS 200's. They all shoot.

It is an unlucky damn cartridge when I am hunting, never seems to be something that wants to die when I have that rifle in my hands. So I have yet to kill anything with it.

I am going to use it on a stag this year, and maybe on fallow deer plus a couple driven hunts. Going to be great.

We have two brass producers here in Germany. One of them is the established "Süddeutsche Hülsenmanufaktur" SHM with a focus on rare calibers

The other one is Reimer Johannsen with his brand "Geschossmanufaktur" who acquired the brass manufacturing from Dieter Horneber who retired a couple of years ago (last Horneber brass I bought was more than ten years ago).
Now they are expanding the brass offer to the used Horneber portfolio step by step, so its worth to have an eye on this vendor

I just got my 10,3x68 RWS dies from Grauwolf. You can't buy directly from Triebel as a consumer. To me this is stupid, but Germany loves to have middle men.

I have not ordered from GM before.

I see the new version similar to .416 Taylor , but little info about it recently . Bit sad as it comes from make brass from .300 Wm or similar length case , and revolver bullets on lightest up to the 400 grain ones on top .
Can save some effort and funds on simplicity of it .

When I get back to the USA I will try bullets for the 41 Magnum and 405 WCF.

I want to see what is possible for it. I have enough bullets for a lifetime for it right now.

I have all 5 of these for .413 10,3mm.

Probably 1000 of the one in the middle.

I recently acquired a Kettner 9.3x64 on a Mauser action. The only ammo currently available is Barnaul 268 gr soft points, which group well enough on paper. Does anyone have any actual feedback of this bullet performance on game?

I was going to go down the 9.3x64 route, but did not. I have some brass for sale, if needed.

I've got brass, 60 pieces new RWS brass. Should last me a while. The bigger issue is getting a die set, you don't perhaps have one of those that you want to get rid of?
C&H can make you new ones if they don't already have them in stock.
Also, you will need a specific shell holder since 9.3x64 has a specic case head. You can get this as well from them.

From guy in Sakhalin, he like bears:
"I have never had a single case of a 9.3*64 BSZ (Barnaul) bullet completely spraying into the trash. I 've already taken two dozen (bears) with this caliber .Yes, passing through the shoulder blade, along the ribs or sticking into the vertebra, there is about half a bullet left. But at the same time, it is often possible to squeeze a fist into the wound canal. The RWC bullet (UNI) generally works great. The first time I fired this bullet after hunting with a 308, I was just amazed When I hit the shoulder blades from 25 m. There is a fist hole in both shoulder blades. He fell and didn 't even move , even though only his lungs were stitched .When this bullet hit the spine, the soft lead disappeared completely from the outside, leaving only the inner core embedded in the vertebra and a piece of the outer nickel shell.Basically, the BSZ and the RVC didn't notice much difference in their work on the bear. The main thing is that if the bullet not hits the bones , both go through . At the same time, the stopping effect is still higher than 308.
Five times I finished off the wounded from 3-5 meters.I didn't see any splashing , either through or half a bullet in the vertebra , but it remains.

Barnaul bullets are simple in design, it is a semi-shell, in a copper-plated steel jacket, made of fairly soft lead. They do not make a "fungus", when they hit large bones, they break, the shell is separate from the core. But for moose, up to 300-400 kg, they are sufficient. And, as this guy writes, they are also sufficient for large bears (they are like Kamchatka bears, they have a lot of protein food). And I would buy some of these cartridges, they are currently unavailable in Russia, the factory has stopped producing them. By the way, I checked them just in case, weighed them - what if there wasn't enough gunpowder? Just in case.

Thank you Vashper, good info. I found a supplier that sells these in bulk for about $ 0.30 per round so I bought 600 rounds. Will test them this weekend on oryx and eland and will report back but should be fine for plainsgame. For buffalo I will use 300 gr A-frames.

the only thing I would advise is to check the weight of each cartridge. Maybe I'm being paranoid, but I've heard of cases of gunpowder shortages in factory cartridges. I always check cartridges that I didn't assemble myself. As for these, they have a positive quality.: they are similar in ballistics to the RWS UNI
