Sorry but I have to disagree. Currently no one is chambering the 35 Whelen in a factory rifle. Custom build? Yes. As far as 35 caliber bullets? right now they are as scares as teeth in a chickens head. 9.3 in various weights are available from numerous sources. Bob Nelson will sing the praises of the 35 (for good reason) but my vote goes to the 9.3.
@Rick HOlbert
My choice would definitely be the 35 Whelen over the 9.3. Yes no one makes them anymore but they are available 2nd hand at reasonable prices tho. As for projectiles being scare you should be able to get some either beg, trade or steal.
The Whelens capabilities are well known like the 9.3.
Unfortunately hehas to go with what he needs get. BOTH are great rounds.
No Rick I'm not deserting the Whelen,never, never, never

Bob I never for a moment thought you'd turn your back on the 35,LOL. You are the champion of the Whelen and rightly so. Here in the States 35 caliber bullets are hard to come by.

Mate may be hard to find but as it says in the good book, seek and ye shall find.

a Sauer 9.3 just popped up...

grab it quick... or I might be tempted... :LOL::LOL::LOL:
@mdwest
A mate has a Sauer 200 with a hogsback comb in 9.3x62 and that prick beats me black and blue. It's a bitch of a stock. One shot was enough for me. My boosted Whelen with an American style stock is a pussy-cat cat in comparison. I would prefer to be on the front end of that bitch than have to fire it again.
Bob

While I do love the nostalgia of the 9.3, for predominantly North American hunting I think the .35 Whelen is probably the better choice…

Rifles chambered in Whelen are generally more affordable for the same make/model… ammo is more readily available… reloading components are more readily available… and the 9.3 and the Whelen are nearly ballistic twins…

I’ve already got one 35 Whelen in the safe and am in the process of sourcing parts for building another one… it’s been a serious mid bore grocery getter and has taken everything from TX pigs to a monster eland…
@mdwest
I second your opinion as well the Whelen loaded properly gives up nothing to the 9.3x62 or the 338WM.
With 225s at 2,900fps it will do everything the 338 will do and with 310gn Woodleighs at 2,350 to 2,450fps it will do everything the 9.3x62 will do and then some. Problem is its not legal is some parts of Africa for DG.

The Renner m70 is actually not a bad price. They’re basically a full custom rifle. It’s a $3k package + your donor rifle
I would say the Ruger’s price is ludicrous
@Wishfulthinker580
Wow 3k plus done rifle. You can get dare I say a Blaser R8 in 9.3x62 for cheaper depending on your doner rifle.
Bob

Tikka makes a push feed 9.3x62. Great gun for the price.
@Flewis
A mate has one and boy oh boy it's light. Around 7.5 to 8 pounds scope and loaded mag with sling. Accurate as all get out but he says it boots like an angry mule.

Bob, have had very good service with all of mine. They are our go to elk rifles. I need another one in 35 whelen and 93x62.

The Sauer 100 is a great rifle i have one in 6.5 CM my son in 30/06 both with beach wood stocks, Unfortunately like the Tikka the Sauer in 9.3 is too light it will kick the shit out of you i have a friend with a Tikka T3, who shoots a Ruger 375 off the bench but is scared of his Tikka 9.3.

Yep I think you’re right. I THINK you could probably get the R8 with the green synthetic stock and standard profile barrel in 9.3x62 for roughly the same cost with a lot less hassle

I see the Sauer 100 on Gunbroker for $899
Then you could add a Boyd laminate stock for $165.10 to increase the weight.
I think that would be at pretty cool combo.

Woox also makes a really awesome stock for these rifles. I am planning on getting one for my .308. They can be had on gunbroker for much cheaper than msrp

Hi Jay,

Hope you're well.

I'm headed your way in January.

Attending SHOT Show has been a long time bucket list item for me.

Finally made it happen and I'm headed to Vegas.

I know you're some distance from Vegas - but would be keen to catch up if it works out.

Have a good one.
