First of all lets not interpret this post as an insult to the .600 owners out there.

While looking through youtube I came across this video from Buffalo Bore and was surprised they would post this video given the results shown.

Has anyone got a video of a .600 being used on a hunt where it showed a dramatic affect on the animal?

Almost looked like the buffalo was getting shot with a pellet gun... There was zero reaction. Until he tipped over. Wild.

The video showed the following:
1. Range looked a little long for an iron sighted .600 NE double rifle. I would have low crawled 20 or more yards closer.
2. Shooting a large double rifle with significant recoil (or extra heavy rifle...) offhand rather than using a set of sticks to steady the rifle. Recoil is not condusive to accuracy. Sticks are your friend!
3. Shot #3 was a miss.
4. Shots #2 and 4 were too far back on the buffalo. Also #2 was high and near the top rear tip of the lung shown in the picture below. Shot #4 would have hit low and behind the lungs.

Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement is most important even with extra big and powerful rifles and cartridges.

Interesting video. I’m surprised at lack of reaction to bullets. He says 3 softs and 2 solids. I originally assumed all solids. I can’t say I like these videos though. One well placed shot with a scoped 375 from sticks would have made a better hunt.

I saw that. All it shows is that A: shot placement is more important than foot pounds of energy and B: The guy who was shooting was outgunned and had poor decision making skills in the field. The video showed nothing good in my opinion.

Nothing like gut shooting big game. The only thing this reflects upon is the numbskull doing the shooting. Shame he didn't master that stupid rifle before using it. As @375Fox notes, a scoped .375 or .416 resting on sticks easily would have put that bull down with the first shot.

Comparing it to my 577NE it looks like it is loaded way down to about 1,200 fps. Just guessing.

The shooter is Tim Sundles, owner of Buffalo Bore Ammunition hunting on his privately owned African hunting preserve, I assume in South Africa. I believe distances can appear longer in videos although I would personally use shooting sticks regardless.

I’ve used Buffalo Bore Ammunition for many years, primarily in large bore handguns. I like that they load many African Big Bore rifle cartridges with excellent bullets. I found the ammo to be 100% reliable. He has quite a collection of rifles used for testing purposes.

I don’t really have any comments to offer other than to say I’m a scoped bolt action rifle kind of guy which is what I’m most comfortable with using on DG. It would be nice to have one’s own private African hunting preserve though.

Thats a hard video to figure out. What was the purpose,....except maybe to emphasize that shot placement is key and it wasn't his best shooting day. Agree with the previously mentioned post, a well placed 375 or 416, one shot, short run and down. Amazing how there was so little reaction from the bull though, that seemed odd.

Totally agree on the lack of reaction. He didn’t even seem to lift his head on after one of the shots. I’d expect more reaction being hit with a .22 at least a flinch.

Way too far and crap shooting, depending on the wind, I would have skirted that ridge and came up directly in front of or to the rear of that buffalo, even my greenhorn ass knows you NEVER give a buffalo or any other dangerous game animal the high ground.

That bull could have turned and came off that hill like a freight train loaded with pig iron wiping out the hunter, cameraman or anyone else on the side of that hill!

We all have our bad days. But always seems rather strange to put in on the internet for everybody to watch.

But now it's out there. Still wild that 2 out of those shots were in the kill zone and the buffalo didn't even flinch. Maybe it was on meth or something :ROFLMAO: . Wild

I watched this video on youtube yesterday..I need to re watch it because i was confuse and thinking wtf maybe is a "buffalo practice target" that's why is not reaction at all...

Crazy how much punishment thse animals can take

I thought shooting the bull on the ridge with “who knows what” behind is poor form from the start.
Big recoil and poor footing aren’t a good mix either.
This is the first thing I said to myself, I believe it is the First thing you learn,Not to shoot on a ridge with unknown background or even known -when you can’t see . Sad Not to mention the poor shooting also.

I think the cartridge/caliber is somewhat inconsequential here.... except for maybe it led to some less-than-ideal shooting. The thing that would have made the biggest difference is a pair of shooting sticks. One well-placed first shot should be the absolute goal. If you can't do that with a HIGH probability of success, wait.

I watched the video a couple of times. It just doesn't make sense to me.
- Beautiful rifle, for sure.
- I have used CEB Bullets, as used in the video, in my .577 NE and .50-110 Win. at lower velocity than Buffalo Bore Ammo advertises and they really knock cape buffalo down on the spot.
- I guess the range in the video to be 70 yds.
- To me it does not look like the recoil of a standard 600 NE load.
- I am a bullet nerd and am very curios what is going on in this video.

Does this video make you want to run out and buy some Buffalo Bore Ammo?
