.600 Nitro Express - Another video

First of all lets not interpret this post as an insult to the .600 owners out there.

While looking through youtube I came across this video from Buffalo Bore and was surprised they would post this video given the results shown.

Has anyone got a video of a .600 being used on a hunt where it showed a dramatic affect on the animal?

Almost looked like the buffalo was getting shot with a pellet gun... There was zero reaction. Until he tipped over. Wild.

The video showed the following:
1. Range looked a little long for an iron sighted .600 NE double rifle. I would have low crawled 20 or more yards closer.
2. Shooting a large double rifle with significant recoil (or extra heavy rifle...) offhand rather than using a set of sticks to steady the rifle. Recoil is not condusive to accuracy. Sticks are your friend!
3. Shot #3 was a miss.
4. Shots #2 and 4 were too far back on the buffalo. Also #2 was high and near the top rear tip of the lung shown in the picture below. Shot #4 would have hit low and behind the lungs.

Shot placement, shot placement, shot placement is most important even with extra big and powerful rifles and cartridges.

Interesting video. I’m surprised at lack of reaction to bullets. He says 3 softs and 2 solids. I originally assumed all solids. I can’t say I like these videos though. One well placed shot with a scoped 375 from sticks would have made a better hunt.

I saw that. All it shows is that A: shot placement is more important than foot pounds of energy and B: The guy who was shooting was outgunned and had poor decision making skills in the field. The video showed nothing good in my opinion.

I thought shooting the bull on the ridge with “who knows what” behind is poor form from the start.
Big recoil and poor footing aren’t a good mix either.

Nothing like gut shooting big game. The only thing this reflects upon is the numbskull doing the shooting. Shame he didn't master that stupid rifle before using it. As @375Fox notes, a scoped .375 or .416 resting on sticks easily would have put that bull down with the first shot.

Comparing it to my 577NE it looks like it is loaded way down to about 1,200 fps. Just guessing.

The shooter is Tim Sundles, owner of Buffalo Bore Ammunition hunting on his privately owned African hunting preserve, I assume in South Africa. I believe distances can appear longer in videos although I would personally use shooting sticks regardless.

I’ve used Buffalo Bore Ammunition for many years, primarily in large bore handguns. I like that they load many African Big Bore rifle cartridges with excellent bullets. I found the ammo to be 100% reliable. He has quite a collection of rifles used for testing purposes.

I don’t really have any comments to offer other than to say I’m a scoped bolt action rifle kind of guy which is what I’m most comfortable with using on DG. It would be nice to have one’s own private African hunting preserve though.

Thats a hard video to figure out. What was the purpose,....except maybe to emphasize that shot placement is key and it wasn't his best shooting day. Agree with the previously mentioned post, a well placed 375 or 416, one shot, short run and down. Amazing how there was so little reaction from the bull though, that seemed odd.

Totally agree on the lack of reaction. He didn’t even seem to lift his head on after one of the shots. I’d expect more reaction being hit with a .22 at least a flinch.
