505 Gibbs

Had both 500 Jeffery and 505 Gibbs. 500 J for me thanks. Shorter/Smaller action, and I've had no trouble getting 2250 fps out of a 22" barrel. All that said, they are both fine killers.

Shot them both and it was the Gibbs for me

You can load the cartridge up to as much as you can handle.
My load is very comfortable at 570 grains 2200 fps.

I soaked these 540's up long ago, simply .. they were cheap. Noticeable, but I've never heard the Jeffery crack the sound barrier like these?

I have shot all the big 5s . For me it is the 505 Gibbs . I have 2 an old single square bridge magnum ( custom rifle with Dumoulin action ) with 25 inch barrel and a recently completed yet to be received custom rifle from Bob de Vries at Kudu Setvices in Melbourne . GMA magnum action , Krieger 24 inch barrel , stocked by Ross Waghorn and engraved by Ron Croxon . It is shown while still being stocked in following photo . I shot a Harald Wolff 500J - I was looking to buy - never fired previously. It jammed on second shot . Cleared the jam - and it jammed again when the owner used it . A bad problem and no sale . I also have a 500 NE double . I think it is a superior cartridge to both the Gibbs and Jeffery as they were originally offered with 525 and 535 grain bullets . Now with 600 grain Woodleigh at 2150fps the Gibbs and Jeff would slightly pip the 500NE .
