500 Jeffery Shooting Thread

This was me with a mate's 500. Lost over 50lb since.

Nice fireballl @DWB (y)

Here's my contribution.

Not sure what that untidy feeding on the second round was all about

These plinking loads are on the mild side, ~5750 ft lbs - but deliver good accuracy.

Target is at 25 m, offhand, shooting 'quick' pairs.

That's really nice .. many thanks.

I'm awaiting daylight .. we'll give the Kynoch's a shot here shortly.

been up all night, why not.

I didn't notice that much difference. However, the lighter bullets & Kynoch do have a bit more energy.

600grn, Norma 570, Norma 540, Kynoch.

I threw a box of clays with the coach again .. I've never felt a 3" that stout.

600 grain Woodleighs at 2200fps. Have zeroed a scope for this rifle now as well so I have the option of the red dot and a scope.

Geez there seems to be a lot of Blaser R8 500 Jeffery rifles in Australia.
I to have a R8 PH.
I went for the super low Henneberger four foot mount, with a Docter 3 on it. It gives me much better cheek weld, than with a standard mount and red dot. I also have settled on the 600 grain Woodleigh. Bloody fantastic combination.

Last time I hunted birds was in NZ and I used a borrowed Beretta 300….I tried some 3” shells in it, can’t recall the brand or the exact velocity.

Anyway, very stout, actually uncomfortable to use. IMO much worse than shooting my Sako 85 in 500J.

Right, so here goes. First time rapid fire test with my new custom 500 Jeffery.

The bolt is extremely smooth, however if I cycle in my shoulder I am pressing it into something that causes it to stick a bit, but I will sort that out.

Feeds very well:

Looks good to me! More photos of the rifle please

Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
