After spending quite a bit of time recently reading through the 500 Jeffery Club thread, and also turning my Blaser R8 Kilombero into a 500 Jeffery, I thought a 500 Jeffery shooting thread would be interesting. This is my second 500 Jeffery, both have been R8's however the Kilombero stock fits me much better than the professional hunter stock which was the first one I had.

Today was my first session on the range with my R8 Kilombero with the 500 Jeffery barrel fitted (it's how I intend on keeping it), 25 rounds later I had a rather sore shoulder but was very happy with the performance of the rifle and the RD20 red dot. I was shooting 535 grain RNSN Woodleighs loaded to 2380fps, 5 shot group below at 75 yards, I ballsed it up with one flyer to the left but still not bad at 75 yards with a 500 Jeffery and a red dot. Of course I had to do some offhand shooting, putting some steel out at 50 yards and putting the Blaser through its paces, video also posted below.

Although the recoil of the 500 Jeffery is rough, I genuinely enjoy shooting this big cartridge. Anyone game enough to post a video of themselves shooting a 500 Jeffery please contribute to the thread, I am interested to see what rifles are out there and how they shoot.

Many congrats, again. Really glad to see another 500 Jeffery enthusiast.
& who doesn't want to shoot their TV from time to time ..

This Husky backpack sure is weird looking .. but a perfect recoil strap?
@Aussie_Hunter, beautiful shots. That is some muzzle flash ..

Very regal caliber in a non traditional (but beautiful) rifle.

Will you be trying 570Gr or 600Gr bullets in the .500 Jeffery ?

I've got a load with 600 grain PP Woodleighs but I only have 22 left as Woodleigh hasn't made them in a while and won't be producing anymore until next year. I have some 570 grain woodleigh Hydros coming but again they are hard to come by at the moment so I will work up a load with them but save them for hunting only.

What are PP Woodleigh's? I have a rash of RN 600grn Woodleigh's, apparently not as sought after as a flat nose .. but that AHR was regulated respectively.

Protected Point, its an expanding projectile with a protected point to protect it from deformation under recoil in the magazine.

Good shooting Aussie_Hunter . I like your R8 setup.

I last shot my 500J on the weekend. One target was shot at 50 meters. Off hand 2 shots slow fire and 2 shots within 10 seconds. So 4 shots at 50 meters, not the best I’ve shot. But , at least they’re on paper.
The second target was at 25 meters. Two shots within 10 seconds, twice. Off hand, 4 shots in total.

Rifle is a Sako 85 with factory iron sights. Generally not too hard to hit a 12 inch steel plate at 100 meters, standing unsupported.

As for a video. I’ve posted this previously but I’ll post it again. This was in Darwin NT last week. That rifle is a mates that I borrowed for the shoot. 6 shots in 25 seconds at 25 meters. I don’t have a photo of the target. But pretty sure all were on target. I only just recently deleted some footage of a mate and myself shooting my 500J on steel plates out to 150 meters. Probably 50/50 was the hit/ miss ratio.

Yeah, I can’t believe we didn’t get any video of us whacking those plates. I had a bloody great weekend in Darwin

My mate Mick shooting a 500 J for the first time. It’s the only video I’ve saved from a morning of whacking steel.

I just watched this on YouTube, many thanks & really good shots.

I think I've over exploited this, through the Sako long ago .. but I don't think I hit anything?

Hi Jon,
I saw your post for the .500 NE cases. Are these all brass or are they nickel plated? Hard for me to tell... sorry.
Thanks,
