I have been working with the 460 for a little while now. I am on my second rifle, the first was a Japanese made Mark V with the Pendleton dekicker. A 1987 model. It shot and fed very well, I sold it due to it not having factory iron sights. I then purchased a newer 2001, which is an early version of thier dangerous game rifle. I ordered the +1 bottom metal so I can have 3 down and top it off for a total of 4. I removed the muzzle brake and have not fired it with the brake so I cant comment on recoil with the brake. Removing the brake shortened the rifle and made it a bit handier. I need to weigh the rifle but I believe it is in the 8.5-9.0lb range.
As for the cartridge itself I really like it. I have studied all of the sources I can find for reloading data and it is truly amazing how adaptable this cartridge is. With the ability to go from 300gr to 600gr projectiles and the vast array of powders that will perform well in it, with all of the different projectile weights it is amazing what it can do. You can basically mimic the performance of any and really all of the 375 to .45 caliber rifles. It is capable of pushing a 300grain Barnes as low as 2700fps or as hot as 3200fps. It will run a 500 grain bullet from 2200fps up to 2550fps with an assortment of powders from varget, h4350, h4831, h380, Reloader 15, 16, 19, 22.
I am seriously considering having Wayne build me a full custom 460 on a CZ action, but I like the 54° bolt throw of the Mark V and the rifle is light and handy with 3 in the mag and one in the pipe it is a formidable amount of firepower.
I am currently using 500gr woodleighs for practice, which shoot to the same POI as the hunting loads I plan to use which are 500gr Swift and 450gr Cutting edge solids. It shoots all these to the same POI with a charge of Reloader 16. Attached is a 4 shot group, 2x 500gr swift at 2300fps and 2x 450gr solids at 2380fps at approx 50yrd on a once used turkey gun patterning board.
