416 WSM first range trip

My action will not feed 350TTSX above 2.870” OAL or any other bullet.
What are you shooting?

I built my .375 WSM on a long action... leaves me with unlimited options. I currently load the Sierra #3000 300 grain to 3.150", I ordered the reamer with a long throat to accommodate seating the bullets out.

I wanted a short handy gun so I got a Vanguard SA.
Work with what you have.
I think free-bore form the reamer helps with pressure spikes any how.
It’s just ironic that the longest bullet shoots the best so far in a SA cartridge, WTF.

@hoytcanon what kinda speeds are you getting from the 375 WSM?

I have said, "short & handy" many times myself, but truth be told, I am 6'4 and 260 pounds, if I can't handle another 3/4" of gun, it is time to hang up my spurs...

Very good, you are getting about a 100fps more than I expected. Basically a 375 ruger ballistics in a short action case. I have a 376 Styer and I was guessing it would be between that and the ruger.

I was getting 100 fps more than that in my .375 Ruger... but I was quite happy to give up that 100 fps.

The Steyr looks like a nicely balanced cartridge... I debated on it, but the piles of WSM brass on my bench decided it for me. I would rather have done a .375-7mm WSM than the .300, but I sold my 7 WSM several years ago along with all of the brass, and that brass is unobtanium these days.

You gotta admit the older you get the more you like to carry a lighter shorter rifle. I don’t mind a 26” tube on my single shot but gone are the days when I’ll carry a full length bolt gun with one. I couldn’t imagine a 26” barrel w/suppressor, ear plugs are lighter.

Take 2" off the barrel, problem solved and better balance. I do like carbines, but the OAL and between hands balance is what I care about... not the OAW or action length.
I see this all the time in guiding in the mountains, client arrives with the most expensive Ultralight gear and rifle and optic, and he is 30 pounds overweight.... uhmmm... do you lungs and heart and wallet a favor and lay off the pasta as a cheap alternative.

Everyone always thinks about the worst thing that can happen, maybe ask yourself what's the best outcome that could happen?
