Hello,
I don´t understand some things written here...Have all people here actually used the NP on game?? Or even the N Accubond?? I did with both, 260 and 300 gr NP and 260 gr Accubond. And many Barnes X, the first ones pre TSX. To me the NP always wins on penetration over the Accubond. And very close to the Barnes X. Most of the times making two holes, even in big cattle! And also wins in the damage made on the way out!!
One thing I ALWAYS have made with the bullets I going to use is to cut them longitudinally. Good education and good to understand, and in some way to anticipate, bullet behavior on game. Also I did some home made "tests" by shooting on deep snow. I don´t know if this replicates exactly the behavior on flesh. Anyway, it is amazing because the bullets, including the first Barnes X of the 90´s I used (250 gr .375"), don´t go further than 70/80 centimeters, roughly 30", into the snow, shooting with full charges at 1 meter from the muzzle!!!! And they can be retrieved already expanded and absolutely clean!
One thing I saw with the .375 300 gr NP is the position of the partition in relation to that position in the other caliber I used (160 and 175 7mm plus 165 and 180 .30"): it is significantly further in the .375" 300 grs NP!!
The paper of the SD in the penetration "in line" of a bullet in flesh has been misunderstanded. Many serious studies have been made on this with many replications. The 300 grs NP falls in the top group.
Anyway, in MY very limited experience, I cannot blame the 300 grs .375 NP bullet as a "surpased" by MODERN designs! It is as "modern" as other designs, with their limitations. And virtues as well!!!
I have, but not used yet. some boxes of Barnes TSX 270 gr .375". I think this weight in the 375 H&H would be great for big animals. I must try on wild cattle bulls!!!
