.375 Cal Suppressor anyone?

I highly recommend the SilencerCo Hybrid 46. I recently upgraded from the Bowers VERS 50 to the Hybrid. I am very happy with my decision. I built a custom Winchester model 70 with a 22" barrel for shooting suppressed 375 H&H. Also capable of shooting 45/70.

Which mounting system are you looking at? The CB or hub would be close to 300.00 cheaper in that configuration. The SR is more for FA rating. Not sure if you are looking for a more locked on mount or not.
I am a fan of direct thread. It is lighter and simpler in my opinion.

Have you looked at the Bowers Group VERS 375?

Seems to get good reviews.. ready for "safari" calibers off the shelf, etc..

Im looking at big bore suppressor options now.. but needing something in .458 (.458 SOCOM would be the primary rifle it would be used on)... If/when I purchase something, I may consider getting an adaptor so that I could use the same suppressor on my 416, 375, and 358 caliber rifles..

I dont know that I'd bother using a suppressor on any of those calibers to hunt in Africa.. but I can certainly see application for hunting in NA with any/all of those calibers suppressed..
I am a Thunderbeast fan and want a .375 can not a .458 etc. this is why I pose the question of who would be interested.

I don't want to rudely sidetrack the thread but in general I'd be very interested to hear how much noise and how much recoil are reduced on a 375 H&H on the cans listed above and/or the Blaser barrels.
I run a Bowers Vers 458 on a 375 Raptor (08 based) and have it both on and off some other bigger bores...I have found once you hit 375 bore and above it is more about sound reduction and less about recoil reduction. It does reduce recoil but overcoming the physics of moving heavier bullets gets harder at 375.

The 458 can gets unwieldy at well over a pound and almost 12" long as it takes a lot of volume...having something lighter would be appealing.

Makes perfect sense, you price captured was for an SR mount. That is why I was a little confused as to which direction you where thinking. A hub version would probably be the best option. You would have a lot of mounting choices at that point. If someone already had mounting system XYZ, throw the correct adapter on the back of the can and go to work.

Ignorance I suppose. I wish it would not derail the thread however.
Quick answer as not to derail! Looked down upon because of the added length to a dangerous game rifle. Most people want a shorter barrel for a quick response to danger. Others say it gets shagged on brush. I disagree with them on both accounts.

I prefer to shorten the barrel more than I would not suppressed (shortened 2-3 inches). With recent advancement in materials these big suppressors are lighter and stronger allowing for shorter barrel lengths.

I wish I had done a 20" 375 H&H instead of 22". Just make sure the suppressor can handle the barrel length. Bowers did not recommend a 20" barrel for their suppressor.

@Philip Glass - I wish you all the best in your endeavor to get a .375 caliber suppressor. When it does happen, can you let me know how much it shifts the balance point of your rifle please?

Although I have them I guess I still don't get the appeal of the hub mounting systems. There is nothing more versatile than having all the similar caliber rifles with the same thread pitch and a direct thread suppressor. Now if there are different thread pitches then yes there can be an advantage. I think the popularity is for those trying to use one suppressor for everything. I have many different suppressors.

With a short, titanium suppressor it should be negligible. I don't want a long heavy suppressor. I already have some from long ago that need to be sold!

If someone is running Dead Air mounts, they can still use this can, or go straight direct thread (DT), which is have found to be the least stable. The CB system does not back off as easily as a DT, the CB system has been known to carbon lock when not taken off and cleaned from time to time. The biggest selling point with a hub is you are not married to any one mounting system.

The Dominus in 30 cal configuration

@Philip Glass I would be interested in one depending on length and weigh. I have been looking at the dead air primal but it's heavy, if I added that to my r8 with semi weight barrel I do t think it would be enjoyable.I love the 375 so much, it's now what I use to hunt deer in Louisiana with surprisingly less meat damage than the smaller calibers I used to use. I'll trade the man card for hearing anyday.

I would be interested. This is not a passing interest, but serious. I have several cans already but none above 30 cal. I own a threaded 375 Ruger and will own a 338 RPM, so this would be great

I have 5 years of hearing loss from my Navy helicopter search and rescue and door gunner days. Not to mention hunting and shooting for 40+ years.
My hearing isn't really bad yet (unless you ask my wife) but i'd like to preserve as much as i can.
I'm looking at the blaser R8 with a 300 win mag and 375 H&H - I'm VERY interested in the integral suppressor barrels.

ps - I don't mind campfire ribbing about a can as long as they don't cry when i mess with them about their E. Hemmingway, Sean Connery, and Robert Redford look alike custom hats. :-)
At least you had the good grace not to mention pithies.
As to silencers, the main reason not to have them is so the staff back at the vehicle hear your shot and know where to come to uplift. No street signs in the bush.

They are not that quiet, it is a reduction in sound. From ringing ears to damn that's loud without the pain. Any ammo supersonic is going to have more noise than expected for a first time user.

Figuring a 10 lb rifle and a 0.5 lb suppressor (accounting for 5% of the overall weight), you could very well be right. However when that weight is added all the way at the end of the barrel, the fulcrum point is sure to move a measurable amount.

Truth be told I do hope it feels like a negligible amount for your sake. Who knows, you might even convert me to a suppressor guy. Best of luck.

A lot will depend on the barrel length, if you were to shorten the barrel to say 22" the balance point would probably be close to the same. For the distances we hunt game with a 375 and this type of can. You will be in good shape. IMHO

Depending on barrel contour, you are close to 2oz per inch. If you are starting out with a 25"-24" pipe. You can see how well that works.

@Inline6 - At the risk of completely derailing the thread...

I believe suppressors have their place in hunting. Especially if doing so from a blind or some type of fixed position. Deer or predator hunting a field would be good examples. I'm sure there are others, but those are the ones that come to mind.

However I'm not a fan of suppressors on rifles that I will be using for spot & stalk. Added length, added weight and shifted balance make it a no-go for me. That said, I fully support @Philip Glass and I'm interested in his experiences as he continues this journey. Consider me open minded to learning from the experiences of others when it comes to this.

Now back to the meat of the matter...who wants a .375 caliber suppressor?

Good Morning x84958
I have read your post about Jamy Traut and your hunt in Caprivi. I am planning such a hunt for 2026, Oct with Jamy.
Just a question , because I will combine Caprivi and Panorama for PG, is the daily rate the same the week long, I mean the one for Caprivi or when in Panorama it will be a PG rate ?
thank you and congrats for your story.
Best regards
Philippe from France

Hello Doug,
I am Philippe from France and plan to go hunting Caprivi in 2026, Oct.
I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
Merci
Philippe
