358 Norma Magnum

Bob will have to crank the whelen up even further now.
@sambarhunter
It's cranked up now.
I like the old saying goes bigger or go home. The 35 just went bigger it don't need to go home the 35STA is more of a good thing

I have thought the .358 Norma to be an interesting caliber. After reading through this thread I decided to run a little comparison between it and some other calibers mentioned. I used a computer program - QuickLoad - to run the numbers so as to leave out any of Merlins Magic.

I used Woodleigh PP bullets throughout the modeling and I took the listed Max Pressure and rounded down to the nearest thousand psi for acquiring a powder and charge weight. The two powders in the table were listed as the top performers throughout the comparison. I also used 24 inches for barrel length. Note: Woodleigh lists 1900fps as a minimum velocity.

I was pleasantly surprised by the .358 Norma Mag.

Great job! You used all excellent cartridges, each one will shine in some area of hunting, but you are accurate, the 358NM doesn't have its equal...some of these get closer but the Norma will always stand out. I was looking for a comparison between the 358 NM and the 9.3x64 for a long time because to me those two are the two cartridges to beat in the hunting field. Both are so good.., but I am glad you could figure it out for us, it makes it easier for many people who come to the conclusion that the 358 NM must get way more recognition than it currently gets. If there is one cartridge that needs to be included in the pack of allowed cartridges on dangerous game in Africa, then it is the 358 NM. Just my take on it.

Us firearms and ammunition factories really need to take this cartridge into their stables it's too darn good to be ignored! Just imagine a Winchester model 70 Alaskan and 358 Norma mag, or or Ruger 77 African in 358 normal mag!

Wow, 358 Norma! By just thinking about it....I imagine it will take quite a few other cartridges out of existence because ballistics can not lie, and everybody who does their homework will realize that this cartridge can not be ignored by the firearm and ammunition factories forever...

why not go one better and do a 9.3x64.?
it is everything the 358 norma is and more.
bruce.
These two cartridges are some of the best in the hunting business....to compare the two is almost a sin....;) However, the 9.3x64 has the diameter advantage, but the ballistics show the 358 NM is superior...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.

Hello:
I’ll take the .375 Whitworth for $1,150 if the deal falls through.
Thanks .
