Whatever premium bullet works in your rifle is the best one. Some bullets seem to be a lot more forgiving than others. The Sierra Gameking is one that seems to work in every rifle and are quite accurate.
Years ago I could not get the Barnes to work out of a Ruger Hawkeye M77 in 300 Win.

What do recommend as a bullet for plains game? Largest animal I’m shooting is a kudu and I may possible use the rifle for a giraffe, smallest is an impala.
I have shot 43 African animals with 190 grain long range accubonds. Everything from eland to Impala. In 300wsm I am loading 62.5 grains of imr4831

Given your experience, I have to question why are even asking?

175 LRx, 190 LRX, 200 LRX
175 Terminal Ascent , 200 Terminal Ascent
Find what your rifle likes and go. I do tend to pick the heaviest bullet the rifle likes for African game as the shots are not typically far and the animals are tough.
My 300 Weatherby and. 200 terminal Ascent are the shit!

I am currently using the Hornady ELD-X 178gn bullets to determine a load for my SAKO .300WM full stock , 22"inch barrel. Any opinions in regards to these bullets ?
Will be hunting Kudu, Blue Wildebeest , Black Wildebeest, Zebra not smaller body game animals.

Avoid shoulder shots. These bullets tend to disintegrate upon striking heavy bones, such as the scapula or humerus.

Hunter, I never shoot on the shoulder, I always try to place the bullet just behind the shoulder in the crease where I usually aim at when using my bow to hunt. I only need to break the two ribs , and hit the hart and lungs as well..

The ELD-X is a good bullet. I think it’s an improved SST. I have used both and had numerous one shot kills on PG and deer. I would suggest looking at a slightly heavier bullet, around 200 gr.

I can attest that most PH's will tell you "On the Shoulder!" for a broadside shot on African game. Keep in mind that the game over there have different body structure and their vitals are more towards the front of their body behind the shoulder. I would look at the shot placement shots you can find on this site. I would choose another bullet. I would suggest a bonded bullet or a Barnes or another mono bullet. Many a PH love Barnes but a good bonded will do great. Swift A-Frame, Terminal Ascent, Bondstrike, North Fork. I don't even use the ELD-X on game here in the US as I like the shoulder break down shot. You will be very limited on shot if the animal is not cooperative with a broadside position.

used 180 Nosler Accubonds on my 300 Weatherby with great results, all were one shot kills with the exception of the Wildebeest, and that was my bad. Took a frontal shot, and missed the heart and only hit one lung. Those animals are tough and there is a reason they are called poor man’s buffalo. :ROFLMAO:

Members, thank you kindly for your informative replies, it is as usual much appreciated.
BARNES /Swift A-frames bullets are much more expensive here in South Africa than in the USA for the USA hunters.

I have a two prong approach to the use of this bullet..I am using this bullet in my .300WM as well as using it in my K31 7.5 x 55 SWISS rifle .
These bullets are affordable when doing load development.
I would like to use these bullets myself in a hunting environment to see how it performs.

I do appreciate every member`s input and opinion..I believe in using this bullet with the correct shot placement it would deliver good results.
375 Ruger fan member mentioned he did use this bullet and it worked for him. So one person is positive after using it himself to hunt.

I need to use a bullet to determine if it works for hunting when I hunt , theory is a guide , practical experience it the ultimate goal..
The second advantage is that I will use one bullet type and weight in two different rifle models . the SAKO .300WM and the K31 7.5X55 SWISS.

Currently the AXE bullet products was not available lately, their machines had broken down , I want to start re-loading for the SAKO .300WM this coming week and I do not want to wait for the AXE 180gn bullets..

I will in the near future make use of the AXE 180 gn bullets as well
