257 Weatherby on cape buffalo?

I once knew a gunsmith that told.me his father killed an elk every year with a .22 Hornet. He sat in a blind at a water hole, waited for the elk and placed the bullet into the eye of the elk. I guess that would work, but does anyone think a .22 Hornet makes a good elk rifle? I don't. You could probably kill a buffalo with any cartridge with the exact bullet placement, but that doesn't mean it isn't a piss poor idea.

Weatherby rifles were also the first rifles offered by some banks as a return of your deposit. If I remember right you got your rifle, scope, and soft case upon deposit of $XXXXX amount of dollars and needed to leave it there for 5 or so years.

Strange as it may seem it was the Bank of Boulder Colorado that did this in the peoples republic of Boulder, my how times have changed.
I remember that offer in the ‘90s. I was tempted but didn’t partake.

If it’s legal I’m sure if you searched long enough you could find someone. I think the video of the buffalo with air gun/air gun dart proves that. I like how everyone is up in arms about the idea of 257 weatherby on a buffalo (which isn’t going to happen now anyway), but archery hunting buffalo is somehow much better.
Don’t forget the video of the knucklehead shown here hunting Cape Buffalo with a 10mm pistol? He was promoting a particular bullet he was using. Apparently he’s a well known African DG hunter. I’m sure somebody here could find that video?

This one?
YES! Thank you! You aspiring .257 Weatherby and Savage .250-3000 DG hunters out there, watch this video and take notes! LOL
Maybe this video will inspire "Buffalo Bob" @Bob Nelson 35Whelen to go after a scrub bull or banteng with his .25-06 or even more challenging, his .25-20? LOL

It's not a youtube (that I could find) but the most recognizable bow hunter alive today, Tom Miranda, had to watch as a buffalo he paid for got shot by the PH that he was paying. It can happen with any gun/bow/blow dart/spear/frozen herring, but the probabilities vary. My only point was that as long as a hunter understands his probabilities and the costs then it shouldn't matter.

I will say one thing on killing a buff with a .25 caliber slug.

With my Weatherby Vanguard 25-06 at the typical ranges that a buff is shot at I can pick which fly you want me to hit while it is sitting on the buff. So it is indeed possible to hit one in the correct place to drop him right where he is standing.

Not a wise practice but entirely capable
Ever hunted ine?

I know nothing about being DG PH but I'd rather have a buffalo client shooting a 257 Weatherby Magnum than a bow. So, if a PH will take a bow hunter out for buffalo, why would he feel any less certain taking out a client carrying a .257 Weatherby?
The only true part is...."I know nothing about being.."

@CoElkHunter
I wonder if buffalo bore would do a hard cast for the 25-20.
If the 10mm pistol will do it pappys 73 Winchester 44-40 loaded with buffalo box hard cast should be just fine.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha

That's a wrap, on our first hunt of this years season.

Hunting conditions are a bit tougher in South Africa during the month of February, but can be just as rewarding if done right.
