10mm auto new pistol which one?

Timely thread as I too am about to snag a 10mm. Been looking at the Colt for some time, prices continue to rise. Looked briefly at the Armscor pistols, read a lot of neg reviews, inexpensive but troublesome. Kimber, same thing only more money. Then there is the Ruger, which gets pretty good reviews and is mid priced. I don't care for Glocks, Sigs are fine guns but again, costly. But what really caught my eye is a yet to be released, ( though soon), Ruger Night Watchman, black nitride finished, Novak sighted model with faux ivory grip panels from TALO distributors. So will probably wait for that release to check costs against the others.
Damn that may just do it for me;)

Ruger GP 100 in 10mm, I have one on order to go along with my other 6, 10mm guns including a Kris’s Vector

Ruger SR1911 in 10mm

Please educate me. I am curious/ intrigued by this caliber. I shoot .22, 9mm, 40s&w, . .44 mag pistols, each with a different purpose. Other than no one really needs an excuse to buy a new gun or caliber, what is the main use for this caliber? Being a Dan Wesson fan just because of my .44, I may look at getting one someday.

I've always been a fan of the 1omm, and a self-diagnosed Glock fanatic.. I've had G20's for years but couldn't wait to get my hand on a G40. Finally was able to get one in Dec 2015. I put a Leupold Delta Point on it, and if I do my part, I can keep a n 8" group at 100 yards all day long. I've killed several deer and pigs using Underwood ammo, works great.

I've thought about a 1911 in 10mm but the Glocks are just hard to beat.. Having 15rds in the mag is a nice bonus to.

Suspicions confirmed..... incredible devices aren’t they?!?!?

Yeah, it's quite the design! For personal defense there really is nothing better (high capacity, absolute reliability). It really only has two drawbacks:

1. They're not the safest (the trigger lock safety is not really a safety at all as no gun goes bang until you actually pull the trigger...it's really more of an after thought).
2. The trigger is not suited for tight groups (okay for defense, less so for hunting).

If I was going to buy a 10 mm to carry on the side, in the woods, something not so much to fend off a bear but to have on hand for a convenient moment, the Glock would be near the head of the list. The Colt Delta Elite (especially the new rail model) is actually my favorite, but damn, that unsupported chamber! After all, why have a 10 mm if you can't shoot the hot stuff?

Based on reading a lot of reviews, the attraction seems to be a bit more power than the 45 ACP and large capacity mags (15 rounds). But it is still half the power of a 44 mag, so is this really a good option for bear protection?

That Ruger Night Watchman looks pretty sweet...

I have a Glock 20 Gen 4 that I am very pleased with. It is my primary woods gun here n the east. The G20 is the gold standard of 10mm pistols that are built for full power loads.

When in brown bear territory I carry my 629 or SRH Alaskan.

I don't know about those grips...............might be good for hunting zebras :E Happy:

Any chance that you can shoot them before you make your decision?

It would be great if Ruger would come out with a hunting version of the SR 1911.
Keep the target sights
Mill or tap the slide for Optics
Mill a rail on the frame.
And heck, why not thread the barrel.
Maybe make a 6” long slide - not sure about that option....

Go to their web sight and I think you can send a message to the boss man himself.

Or contact Lipseys or Talo and ask them to request it.

ABob, I will definitely send the message to Ruger with my suggestion today.
I have done that before on other suggestions. Better to let them know my thoughts.
Thanks

I do miss having handguns.

If it were me, I would go for a Glock 20 SF with some modifications.
First, put a better trigger kit in it

Keep the stock slide and barrel with decent hi-viz sights for woods carry

Get a 9" Lone Wolf barrel.Stainless side milled for a red dot sight of choice for hand gun hunting.

Put grip handle and small slide in a nice peli-case with the 2 slide and barrel sets then call it good as a woods carry / hand gun hunting system with a trigger you are used to.

Colt hands down . I have shot both Glock and Delta Elites the Colt is way more accurate and the glock feels like holding a a 2x4 just my .02 . My first Colt new was $569 think I paid close to $1000 for a used one I like the older style grips compared to new production model.

My most accurate 10mm is a Sig 220 Hunter, the only downside is the finish wears badly. My second choice would be my original Colt Delta Elite

For those interested, I have a Glock 40 MOS 10mm in the clasifieds. Also I have a Glock 21 that is set up for 45 Super for sale as well. Both in excellent condition.

Kimber has a nice 1911 style outdoorsman pistol in 10mm. I think it's priced at almost $1300.

Chopped up the whole thing as I kept hitting the 240 character limit...
Found out the trigger word in the end... It was muzzle or velocity. dropped them and it posted.:)

2,822fps, ES 8.2
This compares favorably to 7 Rem Mag. with less powder & recoil.
