416WSM on Siamese Mauser & 416/348Ackley Improved on Martini

I now understand this design better after working on my own safety design. The initial force to pull the cocking piece off the sear is high and needs a large pressure pad on the safety lever or else it is uncomfortable. I have also improved the ramp on the cocking piece to help the safety pin...

I think Metalsmith is on the money. If you look at the attached diagram the bolt body including the handle and locking lugs is one piece so there can not be any wiggle there. In the photo you have the safety engaged and you have slightly lifted the bolt handle, which is what you are describing...

338/348Ackley Improved reamers are in the post from PT&G. Sprinter ChromeMoly barrel with 1in10 twist No3 contour@25" has been received. Siamese Mauser action bolt handle has been modified to clear the Burris 3-9X40 scope on Leupold one piece low scope mounts. Walnut blank is about to be ordered...

    416 WSM first range trip

No- the Siamese Mauser cartridge was a rimmed cartridge and the rim diameter was 0.555, so if anything the bolt face is a little too open. It is feeding and ejecting perfectly after adding the 0.8mm plate to the right hand side of the magazine box.

Feedback from my cousin is that he does not like the left hand side activation. He would prefer that it fuctioned the same as early Brno safeties. Where forward and right, orientated across the bolt is safe. Fully back and orientated in line with the bolt is Fire. By only mirroring the lever I...

Reloading can be dangerous and scary if you don't do it right

Totally agree with your sentiment. I have learnt far more from my mistakes than any other experiences. Thirty years ago I also overloaded my 280AI, but you learn and move on. The worst outcome would be to stop your learning and buy factory ammo.

Norma brass is the best quality brass you can buy. If everything is measuring in spec then I just wonder if something had fallen into the case before loading that took it from 82% to 100+%. Trouble is that you will never know

Reloading can be dangerous and scary if you don't do it right

I doubt that 0.3gn is the root cause of the issue. There is something else going on? How did you measure the powder? Were all the cases trimmed to length? Did you check clearance to the lands?

    416 WSM first range trip

If you are going to build on a Siamese Mauser action, then the 416WSM is the best choice due to the cartridge length of 2.950" and the Taylor @ 3.340. If you are going down the 416/348W cartridge then you need to open the bolt face unless it has previously been modified for 45/70. For a virgin...

Non-American ammo manufacturers that produce big bore ammo?

For me, I prefer to build my rifles on ex-military actions, as they have been designed to operate flawlessly in atrocious environments.
