I have seen a lot of questions on the forum about powder comparisons and thought it might be useful to share these attached charts for those who may not have seen them yet:
I imagine that some of y’all may have seen these charts - they are a useful tool when trying to compare the burn rate of a new powder that you are considering against a known powder you have used previously.
I’ve been trying to work up a load for my .275 Rigby/7 x 57 Mauser with heavier bullets. The gun has a 22” barrel. My last session was with S&B cases, 175g Hornady ELD-X, H4350 powder, and White River large rifle primers with the following averages:
40g = 2386 (most accurate)
41g = 2471
42g =...
I just saw this in person at my friends shop (Gentz Sporting Arms) and it is beautiful! I had seen it online before, but it is really something in person! Just thought I’d share a picture with you guys since I know you all appreciate these fine guns.
Sadly, I heard from a contact that the current owner of AYA has run the company into insolvency and that the factory has been shut down. Get this great gun while you still can!
The scope appears to be on a LaRue quick release mount which can be quickly mounted either way on the rail. It was likely stored without the optic on it. Whomever put it on before he shot was not paying attention. I wonder how how his rounds grouped?
I copied this summary from another site while trying to understand the different Ruger No. 1 models; it was concise and somewhat helpful (and hopefully accurate since I don’t see my Alex Henry forend 7x57 mentioned in any of these categories):
1-A: This is the model called the Light Sporter...
The discussion in the memorial thread about the tragic passing of PH Greg Mickelson raised a question in my mind, which I would appreciate insight on from those who are more experienced.
I felt it would be more appropriate to raise this question in a separate thread.
I recognize that this...
My brother-in-law and I hunted elk on public land in the extreme winter zone in northwestern Colorado in 2023. We saw only one spike bull over 4 days, and were hunting about 600 yards apart on the 5th night. Shortly before dusk, I spotted a mature bull feeding at the edge of a flat top. He was...
I am planning to go to one convention this January, which will be my first safari convention.
Would you recommend one over the other between the Dallas Safari Club convention in Atlanta and the Safari Club International convention in Nashville; or, are they essentially similar?
(Im not a...
No DIY attempt will look as nice as these professional cut outs; however, if someone is inclined to cut their own foam at home, I have found that a twin bladed electric carving knife does as good a job as is possible at home.
On an ancillary topic, I would also suggest looking at the chest rig holsters from: https://www.diamonddcustomleather.com/
I have ordered three over the years, the most recent one being a custom build for a Korth/NH 44Mag.
They are very comfortable and you can even fit them under a bino case...
Buying the 470 will help bend your thoughts and energies on hunting in Africa for such game as the caliber was intended. This will in turn open your mind to opportunities that overlook! I wouldn’t be surprised if you were using it within 18 months!
I picked up a box too! There was some discussion there that the design on the back of the box looked identical to CCI boxes and that there may be a correlation?
I periodically read but don't participate much in this thread. The disagreements sometimes become exceedingly aggressive against fellow enthusiasts who ultimately share a great deal of passions in common. There are many countries around the world whose leaders encourage national division and...
Upon discovering Von Gruff Knives through this forum, I placed an order for matching Safari and Lion knives, both of which just arrived.
Basic specs for both:
- Flat grind
- Yellow cedar burl handles
- Lanyard tube w/ leather lanyard
- Closed tope sheath
The “Safari knife” is, well, self...
Im sure that @rookhawk needs no further reference on AH, but I did want to add that I recently had a great transaction with him! I also greatly appreciated the extra time he took to share his knowledge and experiences!
They are great watches! I have had one for many years and enjoy wearing it still. It has performed flawlessly!
It should be noted, however, that they are thicker and sit higher on the wrist than other popular sports watches, such as the Rolex Submariner or Explorer. It is something to...
Well, the Rigby is off to JJ to open up the free bore so that I can chamber bullets heavier than 140g. Once I get it back, I should be able to use all of this great data that you all have been so kind to share!
Thank you for directing me to this. I’m supposed to finalize a transaction on Webley and Scott tomorrow morning. Assuming all goes well I will take the case you have for $200 :). I will be in touch as soon as I connect with them in the morning
