Trijicon credo or Leupold vx6 lpvo?

I watched the video. Cost me C$4000. But I LOVE that scope. It lives on my .375 H&H barrel and I can't imagine a better combination. Thanks for the excellent video Philip.

Anybody removed the iron sights from a Blaser R8 barrel?

Yeah, gun parts is the same as guns to the US. Oddly enough, Canada is much more chill about gun parts and components coming in or going out-- all the approvals and hassle is on the US side.

Anybody removed the iron sights from a Blaser R8 barrel?

Best advice so far is the angle grinder:-) Not sure if it is a universal term but up here we call that Bubba the Gunsmith. Sounds like I should leave well enough alone . I was hoping they would be as modular as the rest of the rifle because the gun rack in my SxS has a very small opening for...

I didn't ask if I should remove the sights, I asked how to remove the sights. Appreciate all the wisdom though.

Anybody removed the iron sights from a Blaser R8 barrel?

I'd like to remove them with the option to put them back on. If they screw off, I assume they would screw back on. Hunting in Canada, don't need them. Hunting in Africa, need them.

    BC Elk Hunt

I don't know White Swan but I've hunted the Kootenays for elk a number of times self-guided. It is a very large area but in my experience numbers are good in the region and it is beautiful, classic elk country. Sorry, not much help beyond that. I live about 13 hours drive away from the...

    What Blaser Calibers?

.223 9.3x62 .375h&h I haven't considered a .22 because the .223 handles all the practice at ranges similar to what I shoot with the .375. I've thought about adding a 6.5PRC and .280ai but I already have those chamberings in nice light mountain rifles so I probably won't. My R8 Ultimate is...

Anybody removed the iron sights from a Blaser R8 barrel?

A threaded stud on the barrel would make it seem wise just to leave it. I'm in Canada and there isn't much of a market in R8 stuff so selling and buying another isn't really an option. I've been trying to sell a (fairly priced) 9.3x62 barrel for a couple months now and have had zero inquiries...

Anybody removed the iron sights from a Blaser R8 barrel?

While I recognize the value in iron sights for many types of hunting I just don't see myself needing or using them in the foreseeable future. Plus, I always seem to get that front sight hung up on something when I'm trying to move quickly. I don't have a good gunsmith nearby so I'd like to do...

    Replacement foam

I think what .375Ruger was suggesting is to buy a memory foam mattress and use it as your top and bottom layer. That would give you the top and bottom you have currently to cut up and use as the middle layer. I think that is a great idea and will be trying that myself.

    Blaser R8 Owner in USA

One thing I forgot to rule out-- the possibility of a dummy behind the trigger. I was just at the range, working on load development for a 300 gr PRVI, loading one round at a time because I don't want to add crimping into the variables until necessary. The magazine works flawlessly this way...

Thanks Red, I didn't realize that about the interchangeability of the scopes but it makes sense. I feed rounds in one at a time from the top when I'm testing loads but I will have to insert the magazine/trigger group quickly if I'm hunting in my truck or SxS because we cannot transport a...

Loading .375H&H for DG: Is fastest best or is there an ideal FPS to strive for?

Wyobull, this has been my exact experience with 250 gr TTSX. I worked up a load (65 gr H4895 I think) that will cloverleaf at 2700 fps but when I looked it up it was a really light charge and I'm not used to seeing so much room at the top of the case. I wondered if I'm missing something. It...

Thank you! Really doesn't seem to be a lot of them kicking around. The guy that sold me his last box says he might get more toward summer. In the meantime I'm plinking with 300 gr PRVI and doing some load development with my supply of 250 gr TTSX

Loading .375H&H for DG: Is fastest best or is there an ideal FPS to strive for?

I think I said in my first post that it was probably a gun that would take me to Africa instead of a trip to Africa taking me to a gun. I don't regret the spend on my rifle. It has very quickly become my favourite. I like the way it handles and love the way it shoots. I haven't found a deal on anything yet either which tells me they tend to hold their value and there are not enough of them around to put downward pressure on...

I think I bought the last box for sale at a retailer in Canada a couple weeks ago. I am delaying load development until I have at least another box. 50 bullets go pretty quick. I'm keeping an eye on the used gun websites up here but there isn't nearly as much safari suitable kit for sale.

What Bert said. My .375 barrel is 25.75" but handles like or better than any of my 24" barrel bolt guns. So far, in cautious load development, that has meant more FPS without unnecessary recoil.

I bought mine (R8 Ultimate) a couple months ago and have about 150 rounds downrange, mostly barrel break-in and load development. I bought .223, 9.3x62 and .375h&h. Selling the 9.3 because of overlap with the .375. I am a Blaser convert and love the rifle BUT will offer the following...

PPU (prvi partisan) .375 H&H performance?

Thanks, I have some of that. I was on the Hodgdon site earlier today and noticed the only load they recommend is H4350. For the 300 they say start at 68 and max out at 76.

PPU (prvi partisan) .375 H&H performance?

Reviving this thread. I can get plenty of the PRVI 300s but I've only got my hands on one box of 300 gr A-frames so I plan to do my 300 grain practice with the PRVI. I used to use them in my 9.3x62 with good accuracy but I have been having a difficult time achieving MOA with these in my...

    Reloading for Dangerous Game

Haven't been to Africa yet but am planning a trip to justify my new "Africa battery". Nothing too exciting, just an R8 .375H&H and .223 for copious practise which, along with reloading, is part of the fun of anticipating a trip. Every time I press a big (compared to my usual) bullet into a...

    Blaser R8 Barrel In 9.3x62

I need to figure out how to post photos but it may be a moot point. I heard from IRUNGUNS today and it can be done but it is a bit of a hassle. Definitely not as simple as I'd hoped. Approval is needed from the ATF which can take 3-6 weeks. For it to get approval it must meet criteria as a...

    Blaser R8 Barrel In 9.3x62

I blame AH for giving me the Blaser bug and right about the time I joined the forum I bought an R8 and barrels in .375H&H, 9.3x62 and .223. After doing load development with the .375 I've found a great 250 gr TTSX load and I really can't figure why I need to keep the 9.3x62 barrel. A Swaro...

    375 ready to hunt

Well, thank you for making me feel like a hack at Quickload AND at shooting. A few days ago I was pretty chuffed to work up a new load that shot a 3-shot ragged hole but a significant distance from your group. To state the obvious, that is nice shooting from a very fine rifle. Thanks for sharing.

Best practice vs good enough for hunting

I'm a self-taught reloader. Some videos, some reading, lots of trial and error and range time to learn the difference between "safe" and "safe and accurate". It is very doable, just don't skimp on the stuff that can kill you. Brass prep is slow, loading is fairly fast. Take your time in...

9.3 X62 brass and bullet powder recommendation

I am a simple, simple man. When I look at a 9.3x62 cartridge next to a .375H&H cartridge I say to myself "That .375 is bigger." More powder, more bullet similar(-ish) case design. Wanted Blaser R8 375 Barrel & QD Rings

Absolutely love it. If I was smart enough to post a photo I would show today's target. 3 250gr TTSX in one ragged hole at 100yds. 2660fps average. Moose medicine until I can get to Africa. I shot a bunch yesterday working out this load and commented to my wife how the recoil was much less...

    375 H&H Reduced loads with Accurate 5744

How is the accuracy of these reduced loads? Are we talking 'good enough' or sub-moa? If anyone has a load suggestion for the 300 PPU (reduced or normal) I'd love to hear it. My version of Quickload doesn't have the PPU database.

I spent the afternoon working up a couple loads for my new Blaser R8. I use Quickload and OBT as a starting point, then refine from there. I'm using Speer 270gr and RL15 and Varget. I am simultaneously building loads for my .375H&H barrel with Barnes 250gr TTSX over Varget and RL15. It...
