Thoughts on the use of a Pederzoli Kodiak .50 sxs muzzle loader : 370gn Maxi-balls for plains game hunting?

I used the T/C bullet cast with wheel weights in my 50 cal, to take several caribou, black bear and a dall sheep. 50cal round ball with on deer was terrible, 54 round ball on deer and elk was also terrible, Lyman plains and Buffalo bullets in both 50 and 54 work very well also. The Lee REAL...

Thoughts on the use of a Pederzoli Kodiak .50 sxs muzzle loader : 370gn Maxi-balls for plains game hunting?

Well, holes don't line up enough, so I will have to make a base, I'll just make it rear windage

Thoughts on the use of a Pederzoli Kodiak .50 sxs muzzle loader : 370gn Maxi-balls for plains game hunting?

I will, and I already have several tang sights, it depends on the sight, some you would pare with a front windage sight.

Thoughts on the use of a Pederzoli Kodiak .50 sxs muzzle loader : 370gn Maxi-balls for plains game hunting?

Interesting, I'm thinking of putting a mid range tang sight on, like on a sharps. It already has a factory installed peep sight, but is like ideal, except the peep post just screws up and down, no number marks. I have a non windage midrange sight with the proper hole spacing, don't know if it...

Thoughts on the use of a Pederzoli Kodiak .50 sxs muzzle loader : 370gn Maxi-balls for plains game hunting?

That's awesome, at what range does yours cross? Mine didn't come with a rib sight, it has a peep sight only. Pretty neat gun.

Nice, I took my 54 cal Kodiak out of the safe today, you got me wanting to shoot it again and maybe get it regulated.

    50 cal TC shooting Minie’

Sorry for the confusion, the bullet pictured is one of my own making, 1800gr no paper patch on this one. That is a quarter beside it. My 50 cal Wesson has a false muzzle, that I made to use a strip patch. I'll see if I can post a video of it.

    50 cal TC shooting Minie’

It's a bullet from a mold I made, hard to find molds for a 8 bore. I made a 3 bullet, 750gr ball, or 900gr ballet and 1800gr maxi my normal load is 250grs of 2f, in this one. For anything past 1000yds, I'll make express sights, or a mid range set up. The Wesson 50 cal is a fast twist with a...

    50 cal TC shooting Minie’

This is my 8 bore, with the 1800gr maxi ball. I also have a 900gr mini ball and a 750gr round ball. The barrel is a 20mm cobra helicopter barrel and the lock is a copy of a screwless Nock lock. I built this gun in 98. I haven't killed anything with it yet. Did all my big game killing, mostly...

    50 cal TC shooting Minie’

Interesting notes and ideas of rou d ball vs maxi ball in this thread. I have tried both for hunting and prefer the maxi ball, especially in fifty cal, lately I tried it in 54, without success on elk, so am going with a maxi with that, going to stick with round for the 8 bore though. I don't...

    Euro Mounts

So, I have a question for you well traveled guys. I saw many euro mounts while stationed in Germany, but none with the teeth, which is common today, they use a saw jig and cut the top jaw off. It makes a much nicer mount, then with the teeth, I think. My question is why do people call what we...

Ruger info to be aware of

Been thinking about sending my RSBH 44mag back to them, I have basically shot it to pieces, good to know about sending it back with factory parts, I will be taking off the custom elk grips and Keith cylinder pin. I bought it new in 88, while stationed in Germany, it has been up the mountain...

    Who makes this double

Depending on the Smith and caliber, solder and epoxy are also used, in lower pressure cartridges, but yeah, I've never seen one welded, or a rifle built on a dolls head, greener cross bolt would be much safer.

    375 Whelen Improved?

The only cartridge I ever had short case life with was a 300wby Ruger no1. And yep, I only neck size and don't push the pressure to max. Got really tired of expensive cases, so pulled the barrel, thinking of having it bored out to 9.3

DGR stock configuration for iron sights?

The biggest thing is stock fit, a comb on a gun made for a scope is higher then one made for just iron sights, just either replace the stock, or remove the excess wood from yours.

CWD safe to eat or not?

When CWD first came out, it was in a elk heard at I think, university of Colorado. They fed the game farm elk that food with ground bones in it. They tested the elk, messed with it, gave them injections, to see what would happen...ya know, studying it. The wild elk came up to the fence and got...

CWD safe to eat or not?

I would have to say that wolves are the biggest threat. Cwd just sort of pops up in certain areas, if you looked maps of it, a lot of pockets are hundreds of miles from each other. This came out of a elk heard held and studied by a Colorado collage and yet, it has spread far and wide from their...

CWD safe to eat or not?

Well, here is my uneducated point of view. Most of us has probably already eaten it. You have to figure, how many deer or elk did you eat from a area, and then they say that CWD is in that same area, then they say, well in a 10mile area from this point, is a CWD area and all deer inside this...

    Favorite wood stock finishes

I used to use Fecto 66, for all my stocks, they don't make it anymore, so I have to make my own. It does darken the wood though and have tried BLO on some, with mixed results I like schoft oil, that I get imported from Germany, they have a very good red. I have been thinking of trying Rubio...

    Experience with multi caliber drillings?

That will be a neat set up for whitetail, squirrel/rabbit and grouse/turkey gun. The 16ga is a definite turkey killer, can also be a great coyote set up. My drilling is probably too much for southern whitetail, being a 9.3x74R under 16ga X 16ga. But, works great for Montana.

    Experience with multi caliber drillings?

If it is a insert, it's installed to be permanent, look at the extractor, compared to other inserts. It's a full extractor, off the main one, including the small rim lift. Very nicely done. The inserts I have seen, are not like this and the little extractor is screwed to the main shotgun...

    Bat Houses?

I have them in my shop, I need to build a couple of these, I've caught them in my house a few times, as long as you don't man handle them, they are fine, I catch them mostly with a small net and use my hands , like you would with a bird.

    Experience with multi caliber drillings?

I certainly wouldn't expect the 22 lr to be regulated at 100m, probably 25 or 50m. I would make a copy of my target for at the bench and note where each shot lands. I would think this will take some Kentucky windage also. Just remember to note for each barrel and where it hits with a cold bore...
