Hi BeeMaa
My .416 is a remmag.and I load the barnes tsx bullets @ 2400 fps using Varget. I did experience cracking the plastic cap on the Hydros when seating them while working up to 2400 fps. Is there a solution to this problem other than dropping the powder charge ?
I live in South Africa and have been looking for quality solids to reload for my .416 with no success. I came across Federal Sledgehammer ammunition and read mixed reviews about it. There was some talk of a redesign that happened which improved the bullet. Has anyone got information on this ammo...
For my 416 Remmag I run my hunting loads - Barnes TSX , Varget , Norma Brass , Federal Prumers - all year for practice. Gives me confidence in what I use when in the field. For my non dangerous game rifles I buy the cheapest factory ammo for practice and reload premium for hunting.
When you are in a stressfull situation - like a ton of bovine coming at you - for the first time you do not know how you are going to react. Are you going to freeze , run away or stay cool ? Doesn't matter how many times you have played it over in your head you simply do not know. What you can...
I suffer from arachnophobia - an extreme and irrational fear of spiders. In the November of 2021 I arrived at the Gache Gache concession on Lake Kariba in what can only be described as peak spider season. I opened the door to my quarters to be greeted by fast sideways running spiders (named...
I got my Portuguese built MOD 70 in .416 Remmag in 2019 and put a Leica 1 - 6 x ontop. The rifle has over 1000 rounds down the barrel and it shoots very accurately. I have used it multiple times in the Zambezi Valley with temps pushing 40 degrees centigrade with no problems. I did have a...
I use Varget with 400gr Barnes TTSX and get good accuracy with velocity @ 2420. I have more than 1000 rounds down the barrel with this combination and have had zero issues from 0 degrees centigrade to 40 degrees centigrade
My vote is for the 416. Rem mag in mod 70. Shot these two with MJK Safaris in December and temps were running 100 Fahrenheit + daily . Used 400 gr tsx ahead of full loads of varget.Velocity @ 2420 fps over chrono with no extraction issues.
The consumer is relentless in seeking ever better quality at ever lower prices. This will drive automation to its fullest extent possible in production and distribution. Businesses have no choice
We have all shot bad shots and we all will in all probability shoot bad shots in the future. Yes we have responsibilities to minimize it happening but it WILL happen. We are human.
In South Africa our ex president was bribed by English, French and German arms manufacturers. You name a country and major private corporations or government agencies from that first world country have corrupted african politicians.
Bell Portinger a PR firm in England was basically helping...
I shoot a 416 Remmag mod 70 as well and have the same click from reload 3 or four you mentioned in the other thread. The rifle is very accurate and has been 100 % reliable.
I believe most on this site would LIKE to get under 50 yards but sometimes things dont work out - you fluffed your first shot and have 100 + yard chance at a rapidly departing buff or you hunted hard and you are on your last day and have a 100 + yard opportunity with very little else going for...
Velocity is at the 2380 - 2390 fps mark. A nice surprise was that they shot pretty much where my 400 gr barnes tsx were shooting so there was no sighting in after completing the buff hunt and switching bullets.
Took pictures and clicked attach files (bottom left on screen) and selected the...
Thank you - I do make use of a Chronograph and archive between 2380 and 2390 fps. I have recently bumped the load up to 77 grains and now get around 2420 fps. Not a massive difference but still just feels right.
I got my mod 70 safari express in about 2019. Currently half way through with my 13 th 1 lb can of Varget. At 76 grains per load behind a 400 gr barnes tsx (and a few swift breakaway solids) gives me over 1000 rounds down the barrel. Busy sighting in off the lead slead at 100 m today and this...
I have been using a Leica MAGNUS 1-6.3 × 24 illuminated for the past 5 years on my .416 RemMag trouble free. The glass is excellent , the "controls" are intuitive and the eye relief is generous.
Vineyards in the Constancia suburb in Cape Town to visit are Klein Constancia and Constancia Uitzig where you will find amazing restaurants as well. Kirsten Bosch botanical gardens are amazing and some evenings there are music "concerts" so check their website. Another fine vineyard with great a...

I have hunted with Tinie Kok - MJK Safaris- for two years and going on my third. I hold him in very high regard as a ph and know I can count on him when the chips are down. Your assessment of the man and his business is made off information gathered around a campfire and passed on to a neighbour...
Have owned a mod 70 Portuguese build safari express in .416 Rem mag for about 5 years now. It has run flawlessly and accuracy is really good. I have hunted with it in cool temperatures in the Eastern Cape to hot and humid on the shores of Lake Kariba.
I shoot a .416 rem mag wearing a leica 1-6.3 ×24 with illuminated reticle. This set up has functioned without fail for 5 years now and has been good from 20 m to 200 m. In my opinion Leica is right up there with the best. I grew up shooting open sights but do feel that a scoped rifle gives me...
I am pretty hooked onto buffalo. I hunted 2 buffalo in the Eastern Cape with Lalapa Safaris which were great experiences. The hippo (on land) I hunted last year in Gache Gache on lake Kariba with Tinie Kok who operates MJk Safaris and followed it up this year with a buff / tuskless in Makuti...
Good day: I am from South Africa and grew up farming - still have not kicked the bad habit. I shoot a .416 Rem Mag Winchester Mod 70 ( Portuguese build) topped with a Leica 1 -6.3 illuminated. I really do think the Leica scopes are up there with the best. I have hunted in South Africa , Namibia...
