The Silvers pad is the reddish orange hard rubber pad you see on a lot of British guns. The first picture is from the order book showing the “recoil heelplate” request.

The catalogs may show double rifles without a pad, but customer could order one. I have an H&H double in 500/450 3.25” nitro made in 1904 with a silvers pad. The order book says “recoil shield” for the butt.

This is a 12 gauge paradox with a lot of tools in the case. Look at the last few pictures. Finding the 16 gauge tools will be very difficult—you just don’t see 16 gauge paradox guns.

I did a little more looking and King George V issued H&H a royal warrant on 1 Feb 1911. Unfortunately, the Paradox book does not list serial numbers except for pairs, magnum paradoxes, etc. Your paradox looks like a number 2 model. Did you send a history request to H&H to obtain a history...
Do you have Donald Dallas book on Holland&Holland? The leather label in your case was used from 1902-1911. From 1911-1936 they used a label “By appointment to His Majesty the King.” The hand-detachable lock was introduced in 1908.
Ken
Nice gun and case. The cleaning rod looks like it is aluminum 3 piece rod and not original. The leather label is before H&H received a royal warrant from the King of England. I think the label was used from 1904-1911.
Ken
Very nice double rifle! I wonder where the #1 rifle is hiding. I have an H&H DR built in 1904 in 500/450 with game scene engraving instead of the standard royal scroll.
Ken
H&H started using Hykro Steel in the 1950s. The bottom plate is probably aluminum. You can call H&H ask what they have for records. If you’re in the US call the Dallas showroom.

Tom,
I had a problem with a 400/360 Fraser single shot. The only new brass I could find was from Bertram brass. Very few cases if any would fit. Like you, it looked so close but they didn’t fit. I FL resized the brass a few times. People more experienced than me gave me two techniques to...
Don’t forget about one of the better makers in the UK—Daniel Fraser. He wasn’t in business for long, but built some of the finest single shots, Mauser and Mannlicher Shoenauer bolt guns, and double rifles. Unfortunately, the guns were mostly BPEs, along with 303, etc.

Rigbymauser,
Thanks for the heads up. However, Derrick is not trying to scam anyone. If you read this entire thread or the Facebook page, you’ll see people have bought books from. Derrick will send you pictures of the individual book(s) you are looking to purchase. Derrick is a great guy to...
Derrick,
Once again, thanks for taking the time to answer my questions and providing pictures of the books I purchased. Always nice to deal with honest people.

A lot to see and while you’re there. We spent 4 days in Edinburgh and took day trips with rabbies tours, then spent 3 days driving around. This list may give you some ideas.

I bought some brass from them in mid-March. Order shipped within 14 days. I thought they had a phone number on their website. I got an email receipt after the order. They sent me an ups notice when it shipped. Also, I asked for an email when the brass was available. They sent me an email...
Meshach Browning hunted bears in the 1840s. He used knives, branches, and whatever else to kill them. This was in the Maryland area. His notes were published in a book called “Forty-Four Years of the Life of a Hunter”. The book was originally printed in 1859.

Another show you may want to consider is the Colorado Gun Collector’s show. The show has moved locations since COVID, but it still keeps modern guns out of the show. It is more vintage rifles than shotguns.

The barrel looks like it has a back sight dovetailed in it. Also it looks to have scope bases fitted on the rib. Are you sure this is a shotgun barrel?
Ken
These a fairly light field guns. Hopefully you are using some light loads or your wife may not like the recoil. I‘m sure the trigger can be converted. In the states you would want to talk to cole guns https://colegun.com/. I’m not sure who you could get to work on it in Zululand. You might...
Plenty of history to see in London. There are some old Roman wall structures in the city. I would try to fit in a few hours to see the Tower of London as there are quite a few displays. The Royal Albert museum and Westminster Abbey are other places you may want to see.
The .303 British was pretty common for DRs. It could be hard on barrels with the early corrosive primers. Here’s a Fraser DR from 1898 timeframe. It shots well with 174 grain bullets.
