Our family took a great horse back safari at Ant's Nest in Waterberg, SA- horse back safaris for all levels of riders with tons of game around including buffalo and rhino. They don't allow hunting on riding area which was about 10K acres but owners very pro hunting so I think lots of hunting...
I know Jerry at South Shore Archery makes custom made bolts of heavy weight but they would probably nullify your warranty with Ravin if that is a concern. Which model of Ravin are you going to use? Also what kind of practice target are you using that can handle a 600g broadhead?
Jeff- Who are you hunting with ? What is your set up for the cape buffalo and are you doing the buffalo spot and stalk or from a blind? Sounds like a great hunt and looking forward to the report!
Trophy Shippers- Any update on this issue? I'm interested because a cape buffalo hunt is my dream hunt and I am currently living in Hawaii as well- if I can't import I guess pictures will have to do... Thanks for the info!
Charlie- Interesting post because I'm in the same boat- looking for a new crossbow. I currently have an Excalibur recurve which I like due to the ability to change strings easily without a bow press. I've been looking at Scorpyd Ventilator Extreme a lot lately- reverse draw and appears very...
Stocky- Beautiful buffalo!! I'm interested in some info about your hunt if you don't mind sharing...Who did you hunt with? What was the length of your bolt/ what kind of vanes and size did you use and did you make the bolt yourself or did you have it made and if so who by whom?? Thanks for...
James- When I read comments like this person made it makes me think of the quote "people who don't get it don't get that they don't get it and we can't make them get it"...aka try to keep fighting the good fight but some people just aren't going to change..
I really like the site and in this computer oriented age it is increasingly important to keep a good web presence/ the only additions I have would to include pictures/ bios of hosts/ ph's and also I really like it when there is a description if more than one group is hosted at a time or is it an...
Johnny- I have been living vicariously thru you since you first announced the leopard hunt- I have really enjoyed your on the fly trip report- I think it is a great way to do it and I have enjoyed riding along so to speak...Really hope you get your leopard and I just think you will but if not...
Brickburn- Thank you for the info..I'm still probably a couple of years away from my trip but it will definitely be with bow and maybe crossbow in tow..something about hunting a buffalo that just keeps me motivated to keep putting $ into the bank for that trip/ hopefully with family. I'll keep...
I have a growing interest in both crossbows and compound bows and have been looking for information if is even legal to hunt cape buffalo with a crossbow in RSA. I have researched the internet and have found limited info about this- a few trophy pictures but not much else which leads me to...
Interesting thread Sandman because I've been looking at similar type organizations to donate too. The best way to combat poaching in probably to pick an outfit that is doing good anti-poaching work and hunt with them and support their efforts that way but donating to the right people is...
Is that the same lion that you posted the mold of a couple weeks ago that was the size of a pony?? I think that was a Zim lion as well. You do incredible work- great looking cat.
As a side note I think our much discussed "Cecil" was shot with a crossbow from some of the reports I read- so much misinformation out there so don't know if that is true or not. I have a growing interest in bows and crossbows so I try to read all I can. If the crossbow reference is true I...
Another thought is to get a hyper adjustable bow so you can adjust your draw weight as much as you need through a huge range of weights. I got a Bear Cruzer model of compound bow and you can adjust the draw weight from 10 lbs to 70 lbs and the draw length from 23 to 30 inches just with a hex...
Bivy- Your hunt and report have been amazing reading. Your pictures were extremely professional! Enjoyed the self drive Namibia report as well and the recs on your agent. I hope to take the family on a self drive of Namibia in the near future and will contact Discover Namibia at that time...
At the risk of sounding like a government bureaucrat from my research of Regulation 6 (12) (A) and the advise of my travel agent/ USA embassy they told me the new law states that even if both parents are traveling with their own children the parents have to "prove" parenthood of the children...
Phil- My wife and I will be traveling to South Africa later this month with our 2 children ages 8 and 10. Both parents will be traveling but I've researched this issue quite a bit and talked with our TA. From my current understanding and what we are planning on doing is bringing a notarized...
The Great War in Africa by Byron Farwell is an excellent book about WWI's Africa campaigns. Has some mention I think of famous hunters. Really good book.
Wheels- I loved your report/pictures and writing style. I looked forward to the installments every morning. Thanks to a great start to the day and an awesome hunt.
I'm frankly amazed at the number of places that actively advertise on their web sites that they do this or at least give you the option of doing it. I have read several reports from a well known place ran by the former president of PHASA that seems to do it as standard practice. Not meaning to...
That was my understanding as well but I have ran across several pretty big name outfits that seem to not do it that way which was much to my surprise. I wouldn't go with an outfit who wanted me to sit alone as a novice but it seems to be done quite a bit. I don't know what the advantage is to...
As I continue to dream/ plan a bow hunt to Africa I have ran into a question that I hope everyone can help me with.. My question is what is the protocol for bow hunters and their PH's in relation to hunting out of a blind?? I have read a lot of hunting reports from various sites where the...
What crossbow did you use and what was the setup/ broadhead that you used? I think it sounds like a great hunt! I would love to do it someday and as I'm interested in archery I would like to know more. Thanks..
I joined up this week as well do to this post from Jerome. No organization is perfect but I think as a whole SCI does a great job as a voice both nationally and internationally and is worthy of our support if not already given.
Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome!! :) This is just such a tremendous site and resource. I will definitely be more involved and when it comes time for my African hunting adventure it will definitely be with someone who supports this site. Hank- I love your advice! I think you gave...
I've finally decided to take Jerome's advice for some of us lurkers to post something. I've been a member on AH for several years but have never posted anything because...well frankly I had nothing to post!! I must say though that a day doesn't go by that I don't log onto AH and learn and...
