The spirits, the witches, African Tokoloshe, superstitions, experiences and the tales

I have often heard people state, “I am a Christian so I don’t believe in these things”. That indicates to me that they haven’t studied their Bible. It affirms much of it. For instance, it does not say that you can’t communicate with the dead. It says, you should not do so. I won’t participate in...

I am with you there. I will only consider anything more than a picture on something very special and apply the savings towards more safaris.

    Price Increase Question

No dice. I’d walk. That’s unethical and would be a breach of trust in my opinion. I would politely inquire as to the deposit considering the amount of the increase. If it was lost, I would likely just be a no show. They could use the empty week to catch up on facility maintenance. They either...

Tips for a novice horse rider

I have currently a string of 6 horses. I’ve trained and have rode countless miles, mostly in mountains. The best thing I could tell you is likely you’ll have an experienced and safe mount. Might enjoy or not enjoy its job. Might be snappy and a push button animal or have a pig headed attitude...

CWD safe to eat or not?

Yes, the first was a coworker in the 90’s who was an avid hunter. His passing was a big deal locally with lots of issues involving burial. Nothing ever concluded as to how he got it. The second was the father of friend who didn’t hunt. Events were approx 30 years apart. Personally, rarity...

CWD safe to eat or not?

I believe this disease is going to have a major negative effect on hunter numbers. A friend of mine has done deer camp as long as I can remember. Last year a deer tested positive there and now none of that group is hunting this year. I’ve known two people who left this world by VCJD. Not...

Winchester model 70 safari express problem

Just curious, were you using a lead sled? A lot of of people use them for everything and with larger calibers and too much weight they can be hard on a stock.

    Maximum point blank range

The method is old school, I’m old school and that’s how I do it. If I can’t get within that range, the critter wins and I need to try again.

Where have all the Swift A-Frames Gone?

I find it odd that a company puts as much advertising into a specific bullet for dangerous game and yet leaves it woefully understocked. I keep seeing comments about the smaller calibers being more popular and maybe they are but I don’t know a single person who uses those bullets. It’s the...

Where have all the Swift A-Frames Gone?

Got a gift certificate from the last SCI convention and still no 458 A-Frames. The last I was able to get were two conventions ago. My safari plans got derailed this year but if not, I would’ve had to go with Barnes. Hopefully, they come before next year season.

Credit Card Surcharges in South Africa

I think all bets are off on this because the government of South Africa appears to be doing nothing to improve relations. Sanctions targeting specific government individuals are looking more likely which would likely not warm the relationship any. They are cozying up with Iran and the openly...

Always cycle your ammo before a hunt

The multiple failures to effectively and efficiently reload in the multitude of safari videos on YouTube wouldn’t support your assertion of 99.9 percent doing it. On dangerous game particularly, merely cycling the ammo you intend to hunt with isn’t enough. You need to confirm it will flawlessly...

    Most durable O/U action

I mention this from the angle of someone out there who might be looking for inexpensive and reliable service O/U’s. How many times have you been there? Where are we without experience?

Twice for me with number three in the planning stage. I hope to get to see a multitude of different locations in Southern Africa. I really like the way you did that. I shoot iron sights on my 458 bolt gun and have placed a white dot on my back sight to insure alignment. It allows me to literally shoot my irons as well as a scope on the same gun despite needing reading glasses. Nice gun too.

Interesting interview on game farming and Put and Take

Interesting interview on game farming and Put and Take

Don’t be fooled into thinking put and take pheasant hunts are all advertised as such for the same reasons. How many of you use QD rings

I use them on everything and I use Warne for no special reason other than I like their design and material. The reason is, I figure if I’m mounting a scope why not use them. 450 black powder express

If you use black powder, I would use a dry thin card under the bullet and on top of a greased wad. The dry card will prevent the greased one sticking to the base of the bullet affecting accuracy and the greased one softens the fouling. Your gun should be marked on the barrel flats for the load.

    Fenced in? Dont think so.

I’ve seen kudu take a full height game fence as effortlessly as the one in the first video took the short fence. The PH, after seeing my amazement, dryly stated, “no one owns a kudu bull, they go where they like”.

That’s real close to my crate size last summer and price is close too. Now you’ve got the clearing agent costs and delivery left to be known. I’m very much considering pictures only next time. How do you organize your ammo wallet?

I’ve never used solids and for me it’s totally based on PH preference. A-Frames have been all I’ve used and I’ve had great performance from them. I would not hesitate to go with TSX personally either, but pass throughs would be something to look out for with them.

How do you organize your ammo wallet?

I’ve always used a simple leather 12 loop carrier. I’ve switched to two 5 round flapped leather carriers. Rifle/ammo failure on Elephant

    Mark Sullivan the Expose’

Met the man and genuinely liked him. As far as his approach, he simply closes the distance to within their comfort zone initially, or on follow up, then waits for the beast to discover his presence and “make up its mind to flee or fight”. He has already decided his intention of taking the animal...

None of my taxidermy, African nor North American, has had any treatment applied and none have ever cracked. I know some spray their horns with things like WD-40 but I prefer a natural look as opposed to dark and shiny. A lot of people prefer shiny black horns on their kudu. Personal tastes.
