For 375 RUM, are the cup points and woodleigh hydro's a good round for buffalo? My concern is over penetration and wounding another buffalo...
How do the cup points and woodleigh hydro's compare to CEB Safari Raptors, Hammer Hunters and Lehigh Defense mono-metals that shed petals or a barnes...
Yes, my concern is a rifle that is not setup properly for either dangerous game or plains game so I'm trying to figure out that balance. A true 1x power, SFP, duplex reticle and flat shooting from point blank to 100 yards max for my dangerous game rifle setup and then be able to hit plains...
How does the 200 yard zero compare to the 50 yard zero for the 375 RUM if you don't mind? The farthest I'd shoot a buffalo would be 50 yards max, 300 yards would be for smaller game obviously so I'd like to setup my rifle to be very versatile from point blank to 300 yards with a 1-6 lpvo - a...
For a Dangerous Game rifle chambered in 375 RUM mounted with a LPVO, what is optimal to set zero at? Do you recommend a 50 yard zero or 100 or 200 yard zero? I have two LPVO's I'm interested in, the Leupold VX-6HD 1-6x24 or Swarovski Z6i 1-6x24 in SFP with a simple duplex reticle.
I want...
Before the client arrives in Africa, can clients make a request and ask for a specific animal to eat, for example if the client wants to try hippo, croc or zebra is that ok?
Have any of you had any clients who don't want to or refuse to eat what they hunt, meaning the client shoots an animal and refuses to eat it? Do guides/ph's and cooks prefer the client eat what they hunt? Is the eating of the animals that are hunted part the whole adventure and expected by the...
This is a question for the guides/PH's out there. All joking aside, what makes a good client? What makes your life a lot easier when dealing with clients?
From my short time reading posts here, I think there is more posted about the mistakes the clients made during the hunt instead of...
For 375 on a wounded buffalo that's running away quartering away from you, is it best to use a solid or expanding mono like TSX or CEB Raptor for the second shot?
Also, what about directly away from you, meaning the buffalo's butt is staring you in the face. Can you shoot the buff up the butt...
What are the specific differences between the Cutting Edge Raptor vs the Maximus? Is the Maximus similar to the Hammer's and Lehigh Defense?
Have any of you done any comparisons between the Raptor vs Maximus in penetration and expansion? Because, I was thinking if the Raptor's penetrate too...
Do you or your PH have any experience with mono-metals that shed petals like the CEB Raptors, Hammer Hunter, Lehigh Defense? I'm curious how those would perform in 270gr out of a 375 RUM on cape buffalo?
I understand your point...
It's just that from what I have read is that lighter mono-metal (Barnes TSX, CEB Raptor) can out-penetrate heavier lead bullets and the mono-metals like a lot of speed.
I have a 375 RUM and some have mentioned that a 270gr Lehigh Defense or Hammer would be good...
Cutting Edge Bullets (CEB) does not make a 270gr in 375, but they offer these in 375 below...
Raptor 235gr
Maximus 250gr
Maximus 300gr
Is it ok to use a 235gr or 250gr mono-metal on cape buffalo or should it be at least 270gr ?
Do any of you have experience with these bullets below and how they performed on game?...
CEB Maximus and Lazer
Hammer Bullets
Lehigh Defense
DRT

Is it possible to smoke the meat low and slow like Texas style brisket? Some meats like brisket and chuck roast from cow need that 12 to 16 hours smoked to get it tender. I was wondering how the meats in Africa would taste smoked Texas style on an offset smoker or Weber kettle?
Also, the type...
With the Barnes 270gr TSX have you gotten any over-penetration pass throughs on Cape Buffalo? My concern are buffalo in herds and wounding a buff behind the one I shot.
So far, it seems that lead expanding bullets are less likely to over penetrate a buffalo than mono-metals and solids...
I will be shooting a rifle chambered in 375 RUM.
If we can narrow it down to the mono-metals that offer the best expansion but will not likely over penetrate, which ones...
If you plan to eat what you hunt does the lead vs mono-metal come into play regarding lead in meat?
It's not just the thrill of the hunt that I'm interested in, it's also being able to eat what I hunt. I'd like experience the different meats of African game and how Africans prepare them in...
A lot of very informative information on this thread.
A lot of information so far has been about first shot placement - shoulder shots. Now, where specifically on the shoulder for best chance to anchor the buffalo? I've been looking at photos of the anatomy of the buffalo. Should the first...
For 375, there's two Trophy Bonded Bear Claws available, a 250gr and 300gr. Which would be better for cape buffalo? Would the higher velocity of the 250gr create more expansion and larger wound track inside the animal?
All of your experiences that you have shared here are very insightful and much appreciated. Thank you.
Also, the interviews by Kevin Robertson on youtube on "Big Game Hunting Blog" are very good. I'll get his books.
Have any of you noticed any real world differences in how different mono-metal bullets perform on buffalo? Specifically, the differences between mono's that mushroom vs mono's that shed petals i.e. Barnes TSX vs CEB's and Hammer's? Differences in penetration, expansion, tissue damage and...
It seems that some fragmenting lead and energy dump inside the buffalo leads to quicker kills over the mono-mentals and solids? Plus, less chance of over penetrating? Seems to be a plus.
I was surprised to read people use the Trophy Bonded Bear Claw TBBC on buffalo and it's success. Another...
Thanks for the tips.
The 458 socom in 405gr hard cast is on par with the 45/70. The owner of Buffalobore ammo has used the 458 socom on 2,000lb+ pound game...

Wow! What a horrible tragedy. This is scary for many reasons.
This story has me really thinking. For a Cape Buffalo to kill an experienced PH shows how dangerous and intelligent they are. In the story above it almost alludes to the buffalo sort of ambushing them in a flanking maneuver while...
Have any of you been in the unfortunate situation where your bullet over penetrated the buffalo and it hit another buffalo? In those situations what does the shooter, PH and tracker do?
So, in an ideal situation it would be best to hit the buffalo with a broadside shot through the shoulder breaking the shoulder? I would assume breaking both front shoulders with one shot is better? Does the Barnes and AFrames penetrate deep enough to break the second shoulder on the offside...
Hi, I have never hunted African game but hopefully someday plan to. I have some questions about what in recent years what style of ammo technology has been more effective on Cape Buffalo for quicker kills and even "DRT" between mono-metals vs lead bullets?
I remember back around the 2010 to...
