HOWDAH Pistols for stopping the charge

A safe load of bp, you can fill case as much as you can to still seat the bullet, with 3f swiss It will fit. Try the 270gr KEITH style bullet, hard cast. As far as smokeless loads go, I wouldn't go over 45 colt pressure.

HOWDAH Pistols for stopping the charge

I believe the action wouldn't be strong enough, a 410 Frame is pretty small. Normally a 20 GA or larger, double chopper lump with a greener cross bolt is needed for any rifle cartridge, some under levers are a exception to the rule. It all.depends on how the action locks up and strength of the...

HOWDAH Pistols for stopping the charge

These are.rifled 45 colt barrels reamed out to chamber the .410 shell. Only way to have a shotgun in a handgun is with rifled bores, or a tax stamp in America. Original antiques are mostly exempt.

HOWDAH Pistols for stopping the charge

They can be trimmed down to 2 1/2, that would give room for the bullet to stick out and still have room for bp, or shotgun powder and fiber wads. I'll try and get some 410 shells ordered and play with it also. If nothing else, they can be trimmed back, until they work with a .451 non healed...

HOWDAH Pistols for stopping the charge

You may have to use a healed bullet. On the other hand, maybe expand the neck of the brass out, to just fill the chamber. Brass shells are thinner then standard shotgun shells. Also, have you slugged your bore? I have a cheap Comanche 410/45, I guess I'll have to get some brass shells and take...

HOWDAH Pistols for stopping the charge

It would actually be quite easy to take a old small framed 16ga shotgun with pitted barrels and Mono block it for 577 snider or 45-70 or 57-70. As long as the action is strong enough...tight, double chopper lumped and greener cross bolt. It may have to be a NFA item, I would have to look at the...

    Rimmed (only) Cartridges

I do also, all my reloading books are 2200-2400 fps, max. For the 9.3x74R,. I would expect it's rimless stable mate to be about the same, I think their is a Magnum one though, maybe that is what he is talking about, though I still doubt those speeds.

Spoke with Bill at Swift Bullets yesterday

What the hell is wrong with people? We didn't need 9 mil illegals, we needed a nation of lazy people cut off.from the government tit. We now just have more people living on hand outs. Yes I know, some are hard working, but a lot arnt.

Reinforcing stock wrist - anyone done this?

I thread mine by putting the die in a vise and chucking the rod in a hand drill, some oil on the die and guide the rod with my off hand to prevent whipping, works like a charm.

CZ Sells stake in Vista Outdoors

Seems like a lot of movement of sporting goods stock lately. Makes you wonder what is about to take place. In the past it seems like a lot of movement like this preceeded big political changes in gun laws.

Finally got my W.J. Jeffery 8-bore shooting!

On hard recoiling doubles, including shotguns, if you shoot the front trigger first, sometimes the recoil will move your finger to the rear trigger, making it fire also, hence doubling.

I have looked at the mounts from NECG before and figured I could fit them myself. I also new the scope would be off and theirfore would throw off the shotgun like handling of it. I would actually prefer a bolt peep sight, but these are very hard to find, may have to build one myself. When you...

Finally got my W.J. Jeffery 8-bore shooting!

If works good with the big ones, 2f for the 800gr round ball and the 1200 gr one. The 1800 gr one I actually did for cape Buffalo, but never made it, the 1200gr I had thought for grizz and the round ball for everything else. I have yet to.kill anything with it, except for stumps and trees. I...

Finally got my W.J. Jeffery 8-bore shooting!

I do what I'm talking about with a 1800 grain bullet and 300grs or more of 1f, sometimes you just have never choice but to move. I do what you're talking about with guns up to 600 nitro, black powder guns have a longer recoil curve, depending on the length of the barrel. I'm 6'2" and 250lbs, I...

Finally got my W.J. Jeffery 8-bore shooting!

With black powder, it should be more of a rolling hard shove. With mine, I take a step back and keep the rifle as.mutch on target as possible, like a train on the rails. It will help save your shoulder, as.you move with it, just constraining on controlling the muzzle.

One cartridge to hunt dangerous game for the rest of your life and it can't be a 375, what are you going with?

I don't own one, but a 450-400 double, because I have always wanted one. For plains game, either 9.3x74R which I do own, or 375 flanged, which I am going to build on a faurquison action.

Finally got my W.J. Jeffery 8-bore shooting!

I don't shoot mine very often, unless I have several pounds of powder on hand, because they eat so much. Have you tried 1 1/2 or 2f Swiss powder? I have found Swiss to work the best in mine. I know, muzzleloader vs cartridge, but some info carries over.

    Hotchkiss Rifle

Mini balls were designed and used in rifled muskets. The bullets were undersized for easy fast loading when the barrels were fouled, then the skirt would expand the bullet that would fill the grooves and scrap out the fouling. A really interesting bullet design as the bullets didn't actually...

Best practice vs good enough for hunting

I load and modify a lot of obsolete cartridges as well as wildcats now. Unfortunately, I sold both my Herters rifle and shotgun presses and moved on to RCBS, Hollywood, Dillon for rifle and pistol And Lee and Hornady for shotgun, as well as the antique hand loads and roll crimper. As normal...

This is all I did when I started loading in the early eighties, if the cases got too dirty, they got a vinegar wash. Used a old herters press and C&H dies and a scoop my grandad help me make..he had a old scale. I load a lot different now, then I did then, but I killed animals then and still...
