Mozambique Niassa Reserve: What animals to consider if Buffalo is taken early?

Its not that any recommended it specifically, its more that they all generally communicated hunting dates would be between June-September. None dissuaded me from any months in there or indicated any being better than other. And by the time I was working with Leopard's valley on setting dates I...

Mozambique Niassa Reserve: What animals to consider if Buffalo is taken early?

Thanks for the warning. On my first hunt there were two primary animals I had in mind - Sable and Kudu. The Sable was shot in the first two hours of my 3rd day of hunting, the first day we were really looking for a Sable. But the Kudu, that animal 'frustrated' me. It was over the course of a 4...

Mozambique Niassa Reserve: What animals to consider if Buffalo is taken early?

The base camp is on the Lugenda river and the hunting area is bordering L2 on their Southern side. I booked with Leopard's Valley. I've hunted with them in South Africa and they have a partnership with an operation in Mozambique. I know the name of the partner but would want to check with Dave...

Mozambique Niassa Reserve: What animals to consider if Buffalo is taken early?

As I've read and looked around more, I'm thinking Niassa Wildebeest has to be on the list. I'll be there in June so won't see the late season Eland numbers. Will have to have it on my list as well though just in case of opportunity.

Mozambique Niassa Reserve: What animals to consider if Buffalo is taken early?

I decided to book a 10 day Buffalo hunt in Mozambique. I'm really looking forward to the hunt part of it and tracking/walking for days to find the right one and the right shot. But, if everything lines up to take a great one and still have days left in the hunt, what are some other animals I...

    Strap for 4 Stable sticks?

Thanks for feedback. I only worked with them for a few minutes and then haven't had much time. I'll find some more time to work with them and likely have better feel for what you two are relaying. I also realized if I wanted to that i could do a quick 3d printed clip-on loop to make my own strap...

    Strap for 4 Stable sticks?

Up until now, I've been using Primo Trigger Sticks. After my last SA hunt, I've been looking for some shooting sticks that support front and rear of the rifle like my PH had. I just got a set of the 4 Stable Sticks from @RAVEN ROCKS PRECISION and in practicing with them today something felt...

    Good Gun Deals This Week

For current production guns, I frequently refer to gun.deals site to see pricing and inventory/in-stock information. I know some states, like WA where I live, require an FFL to collect sales tax if not assessed by the seller. But for other states that don't have this I find it rarely useful to...

Excellent condition rifle. Purchased it from previous owner who noted <40 rounds though it (he bought 2 boxes of ammo and had not shot it all). No marks at all on stock that I can find, it looks brand new. I had intended to have a second setup but have instead decided to go with an Akila...

    Suppressors in Africa

Well, as usual, different answers depending on who you talk to in the government. The info given to me by a CBP agent was to get the 5320.20 approved as an individual for temporary export. His statement was that the form is not necessary for suppressors in travelling within the US but the use of...

The form 5320.20 is really very little work to do and costs nothing more than a postage stamp. I would recommend doing it for peace of mind with minimal effort.

First Buffalo hunt: Mozambique vs. South Africa

Some have also pointed me to the Limcroma Buffalo package being offered for Limpopo. Has anyone done those? Did a quick search for trip reports with them for buffalo hunts but didn't notice anything recent. Curious on comparison of that to the wild Moz/Zim/etc hunts.

First Buffalo hunt: Mozambique vs. South Africa

Any recommendations for Zim outfitters? The Moz hunt I was looking at was about 60% more than the SA option which didn't seem terribly bad for a wild hunt. Flights from JNB to Pemba would add about $800 extra cost vs just going to JNB. Then outfitter said it's a 5 hour drive to the camp, no...

First Buffalo hunt: Mozambique vs. South Africa

I admit to being fairly new to hunting in Africa, with just 2 South Africa hunts under my belt. First was on a Cabela's package in 2022 (using PH's rifle) and then booking on my own for 2023 (using my Blaser R8). A little while back I was looking at Cabela's packages for 2024 and their offering...

Using J. Sipp to make 3 Blaser barrels and a suppressor….

Now it all makes sense. I had seen that item listed in places as discontinued so it looks to no longer be available in the US. SO, today, you can get a stock and transplant Blaser receiver/trigger unit to it, but can't get a new on including the receiver/trigger. Thanks!

Using J. Sipp to make 3 Blaser barrels and a suppressor….

What model is yours called? I am wondering if they still make them today including the receiver in the stock. Looking at their site I see the GRS Sporter stocks that note the inlet type for R8 Professions. They also call out that for the R8 that glass bedding is required. That and with those...

Thanks. Looking at current products for US it seems only to be available as stock that you need to transplant your R8 receiver in to. Looks like a great setup but I'm not trusting my skills that much to do the transplant. Glad your barrels turned out well. I still need to check back with him...

To cover your bases for taking it out the US and bringing it back in, fill out and get approval on ATF Form 5320. I had my form approved and back to me within 25 days of mailing it in. No issues at all with customs. There may be concerns depending on your transit points and point of entry to...

    Plains Game Hunting Rifle/Cartridge question

On my first trip in 2022 I used my PH's old 30-06 and took 5 animals with 5 total shots, no more than 1 needed per animal. In 2023 I took my own rifle that I was very comfortable with at home but I kept pulling right when on my hunt. I was closed to 2 shots per animal. Next year I'll take my own...

SOUTH AFRICA: Return Hunt With Leopard's Valley Safaris, Even Better Than The First

Day 8 - What a day! Ok, to spoil the surprise - it was an awesome day today. We headed over to a property about an hour away that was also incredibly different in terrain. It was very void of brush/trees, with just occasional patches but mostly wide open spaces. It made it easy to see animals...

On my most recently hunt I was fortunate enough to take nice examples of both of these.
