Well i was gonna say Buffalo Bore .45 super, but the rest already have. I've never seen one that didnt run away at sight or sound of me unless it was on bait that it was habituated to and saw it as "his" food source, even then i would bet that if i took a shot at it, whether i hit it or not...
Totally agree. 180gr 30-06 2600ish yields excellent results on deer size game. I generally step up to a bonded bullet in magnums (I like norma bondstrike) or mono metal (I like barns tsx)
Welcome from another new guy! (whatever thats worth?) Glad to see you here. This is a great community full of amazing people. You are gonna like it, and congrats on booking your hunt!
Core-Lokts have a steller reputation where i live. I used to assume thats because of how cheap they are but as I get older and more experienced i realize there is more to it. I started out using them because they were cheap and I continue to use them because the work really well. I have used...
It's not my intention to stir up any controversy. I know opinions differ on the topic, but for the record i have nothing against bait or dogs when it comes to bear hunting. I simply dont use them because its not legal in my area. I have killed two black bears with 30-06 180gr core-lokts, both...
While i have no doubt big bores would be great on black bears, where i live and hunt bait and dogs are not allowed so flatter shooting cartridges tend to be the popular choice. In my area we spend a lot of time glassing for bears in the spring and shots tend to be on the longer side. In the fall...
I bought a rifle from Dave not long ago and completely agree everything was even better than described and he gave me a fantastic deal. Congratulations on your purchase I know I'm very happy with mine and you couldn't ask for a better guy to deal with than Dave.
Pretty sure this is a debate I don't want to get into with a guy who has 35Whelen in his name! If I was going to..... Mind you I am not..... But if I was.... id say ammo availability. If I dared to be even more petulant..... Again no way am I poking that bear!...... But I might be tempted to say...
I was replying to a comment about shooting caribou with.223. Admittedly the thread is not about that, so this may not be the appropriate place for this little tangent we find ourselves on.
Thanks, but no thanks. Seems like a fools errand. I shoot and handle the recoil of larger calibers just fine, so I think I'll stick with them. I will Google that though when I have time because that kind of stuff is interesting to me, but I'm sure all I will find is a defense of how "it can be...
I got the email too and replied letting them know what products id like to see most. Very good news that production has resumed. It's been a long time coming.
Thank you Rick that is good information. I was wondering if the "soft copper" jackets on Hawk bullets might result in more fouling. Does hawk publish load data for their bullets? I didn't see anything on their website. Thanks.
Very funny Bob, but no not at all. I was saying Im probably a little lite in the brains department because I prefer recoil to muzzle blast. Like dad used to say " If your gonna be dumb you gotta be tough" haha
I totally agree on C.T.D. That being said I buy all my ammo online and it works very well for me, but I always shop around. I get good deals, often with free shipping and I love skipping the trip to town. ammoseek is a very convenient tool.
Maybe my head acts as some sort of an echo chamber being that it's largely hollow, but I know I definitely prefer the recoil to the muzzle blast without ear protection.
Well Bob, as you predicted recoil is stout. I shot a Hornady "Precision Hunter" 220gr ELDX standing offhand and it definitely has some recoil. I still feel like the trade off is worth it in a rifle I will end up carrying a lot more than I end up shooting. I will use the muzzlebrake when I'm...
Good shooting! Are you still using the red dot? Any thoughts on that vs iron sights? I want to try out the one that came with mine but I have to work out a mount first.
It was built by JK Cloward out of Seattle on a CZ 550 action. 24" barrel, and I think it's 14" length of pull. It fits me well, as far as I know but admittedly I wouldn't really know if it didn't. It came with a trijicon RMR that I haven't mounted yet and 10 rounds of Norma ammo.
