Why The 30-06 Has Been rendered OBSOLETE

This is gonna spark some debate.

My view:
It shoots comfortably, shoots accuratly and does the job from duiker all the way to eland and has a reasonable bullet weight range for the different situations that are also available in 99% of gun shops. It may be old, but it is still one of the most popular cartridges in the world - and for good reason... Yes there are better (ballistic) cartridges, but why change something thats not broken? It worked in 1906, it still works in 2012, it still takes plenty of animals. Still one of the great cartridges in my mind.

There are a numberof newer cartridges that better the ballistics and terminal performance of the ancient 30-06!

hey Bart i love it when you wind every one up!! ;) cant believe they still bite !! love it :biggrin2:dont have a 30-06 so go for it!!! you me an 35bore have to go drinking one day !!!!:beer::draught:

MJ75, sest is right.... Love him or hate him. Use to hate him, he is actually a really good guy. Terrible speller, but knowledgeable.

Truly I belive the 06 is a great round given the right situation. I am also amazed people still get offended at such brazen statements when its obvious that I'm drinking.

seems like only a few of us have you worked out..:draught::laughing:

30-06 ? Is that still in production ??

:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Love my .30-06 (and my .375 H&H and my .30-30.) In fact, the most modern cartridge I have is a .243 which I think is pretty good for a new wildcat. Of course, some of my younger hunting friends are trying to get me into the 21st century, but I'm happy in the late 19th, early 20th, where I live most of the time.

I just hope they continue to make 30-06, so I get cases for my 6.5-06:eyebrow:

As long as the .303 British is ok...:).

Who knows how many are still laying around????

I am righthanded, so not interested in the rifle, but I have a 375 RUM and 350 gr bullet loading data is very hard to come by. If you could reply with information regarding your loads I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Ray Boone, Leavenworth, WA

Hello - I was looking at your post from several years ago regarding the Winchester 300 H&H. Any chance you still have the lefty M70 300 H&H for sale?
Thank you, Mike

An excellent AH member right here! I had a fantastic transaction with Hornedfrogbbq (I was the seller). His communication was first rate, payment was extremely fast, and I would have absolutely no reservations at all dealing with him again. Thank you, F!
