Reloading for 416 Rigby in 2024

there is a range price in of bullets , on the cheap side there are some 350 gr Speers available again after a 5 year hiatus, 1.20/bullet, then there are Hornady DGS/DGX and barnes, about 3CA$/piece. then there is A-frames and partitions at 4$/p. Nosler solids 8$ , Woodleighs not there.

What motivates a change in powder?

so this is, for a Canadian a major deal breaker, we get spurious availability here. the paradox is that many of the very excellent new powders are used less,as people stay with their recipes. So the new powders are even sometimes discounted, but at least readily available. I used RL7/15/19/22...

    Big Bore Addiction Group

Can I prod the swarm knowledge? I need to replace the stock on my FN Mauser in 375 Ruger and have been offered a Bell and carlson. What is the experience with B&C in medium heavy recoiling rifles and is it just a drop in or would you bed it as well? I don't think it will need the recoil lug that...

    New stock for FN Mauser

I have a standard length FN Mauser, 1970’s vintage, rebarreled to 375 Ruger. Lots of work done on the old stock , bedding etc. Unfortunately it has now split lengthwise in front of the pistol grip forward to mid action. Pic to follow. It probably could be repaired, but that is not my choice. I...

Wild hog meat… do you eat it or is it too risky?

you also have compulsory trichinella testing for wild meat in Europe. trichinella rates for black bear in Canada varies regionally from 15% in the prairies to > 70% on the west coast. freezing at -20C/48h or cooking to core temp >70C will also kill it.

PPU (prvi partisan) .375 H&H performance?

I have used the 9.3 version n 286 gr fair bit on moose and bear, shot from a 9.3x62 and a 9.3x64 equivalent. they are actually tougher than the Hornady SP of same weight, nearly always pass through. Need to saw through some to show you the brass thickness, I think apart from the barn door BC...

CZ 550 MAGNUM in .416 Rigby

if you reload, I see you are starting with Norma brass. Keep in mind, it is thicker brass than Hornady, same load result in much faster loads. Weight and meter the brass to get a idea, Use Hodgon/Hornady data with caution. Otherwise I have the same gun without the jewelled bolt, I love it. I...

    .35 Whelen & CFE223 - magnum or standard primer?

A 35 Wheelen with a 225 gr at 2900 fps or a 250 gr at near 2700 fps is factually a magnum in the scale of a 358 Norma or 9.3x64. Slightly above commercial load data/hodgon with varget, which is my comparator. I like cfe223 a lot in my 8x57 and also 375 ruger and it gives more speed than varget...

    Impala bullet info needed

the monolithics as MJG are drive band bullets, so they behave very much different than Barnes. which still fully engrave in the rifling. Down loading the 458WM to 45-70??

these were my 2 lines of thought as well. Black bears are not terribly hard to kill, a 458 cal bullet at anything above 1400 fps and under 50y is not unreasonable. If the 458 gun is heavy and she can handle the weight, that is good. A light 308 may kick a lot harder. But as said by others...

    375 Ruger Wildcats

no, I had new Heym barrels reamed. I never had a 9.3x64... dream of my youth, but not that practical. powder capacity of the 9.3CAN is about 5-8 gr more, speed is the same, but Hornady brass is quite soft, so for all practical purposes the 2 cartridges do the same.
