Hi,

I am interested in areas (Thabazimbi?/Limpopo) and hunters/outfitters who specialize in big (55 inch plus) Southern Greater Kudu. I would 10 -12 full days hunting to ensure we have enough time to find such Kudu.

Other species Id like to hunt are

Limpopo bushbuck (important)

Impala

I would like two each of the above species on quota.

I will probably take more animals if we come across exceptional trophies while hunting the above. But the focus on exceptional Kudu and bushbuck are core requirements.

The hunting must be real Spot and stalk/tracking hunting only. – no small camp predecided animals, shooting from vehicles or similar tactics please.

Would like to time the hunt in the kudu rut (may?) over the dark phase of the moon.

I will be renting a rifle and prefer a moderated one.

Please advise what can be suggested for the above hunt requirements.

Thank you

Ali Mufti
Please be careful with these type of requests. If you want a 55" Kudu, you can certainly find one but at what cost? You need to decide what type of hunt you want not just the result. They will take you to a pen and let you shot a 55" Kudu no doubt. Is that what you want to do? Limpopo is dominated by smaller game farms. Do your home work and be cautious!

Werner Lombard runs Bokamoso now. He is a fantastic hunter. I wouldn’t hesitate to contact him for a big kudu.

Agreed, better yet, hunt Botswana, Zambia or Namibia for a big kudu and avoid the pay by the inch issue.

I see that Buzz is killing some big kudu in Zim. I assume that’s in Nyakasanga.

Werner was guiding my wife and daughter, great guy and his mom and dad were running the camp - wonderful people

I hope you had some of the cheese from their dairy in Maun. Amazing stuff, hard to believe it’s made in Maun!

The way this reads indicating Limpopo should be avoided which is bullshit....yes do your homework and apart from a few outfitters that may trap you with something like this the majority of SA outfits do no partake in this practice....
Right areas in Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Botswana and maybe Zambia will suffice....Namibia you nee to be carefill as disease desimates the older kudu.....

Who exactly are "they"...if such statements are made then name then instead of putting out a blank warning about shooting kudu in a pen...........

The $ by the inch properties exist! And they are not necessarily small properties. Figuring out those details is going to be up to the due diligence of the hunter. And there is nothing that says “select” animals can’t be stocked into large tracts either.

I have looked at and studied several hundred kudu bulls in various areas/countries, sometimes while actively hunting kudu and sometimes just running into them while hunting other game. Obviously few people, if any!, have spent significant time in all areas and all countries that have southern greater kudu. Take those type expert opinions with a granule of sodium chloride. Of the two largest kudu bulls I’ve seen, dead or alive, out of those live several hundred running around —- one was an old, weathered pick-up skull leaning against a hut at one of the entrance check points of a two track road entering the South Luangwa Natl Park Zambia. I guessed it to be in mid to high 60s. The other I killed in Central Kalahari of Botswana- it was 63 1/4. I have no detailed info about all the pics and mounts of goid kudu bulls I’ve seen. The other concentration of note I’ve witnessed for good 55+/- kudu was on a large property in Limpopo Province RSA. Several years ago Namibia was also reported to be “the place to go” for good kudu. Then came the rumors of a rabies outbreak. Now I have no idea.

I second Werty as I was there in May 2023 and am returning in May 24. I killed two 55.5” and 57” and one that just missed at 54.5. I would go early April to Mid- May. The Ghanzi area has the genes for free range kudu hunting at its finest. No Bushbuck there however. First time I’ve gone back with same outfit Nkwe safaris and Jaco Visser. As sure a bet for 55” inch as you will find in Africa with always a chance at Holy Grail!!!

I would think you know exactly who “they” are. It’s common practice in Limpopo. Always an attempt to downplay it as well. A lot of research needs put in if looking or the right hunt with these kinds of requests. Many are careless with the truth in Limpopo.

I've never hunted with Jaco at Nkwe, but I guarantee the Central Kalahari kudu genes and environment are as good as any in Africa for big kudu.

My friend the post begins with "be careful" and this can be true anywhere. Do your homework! The horror stores I've been privy to with the pen hunting are from Limpopo. Sorry.

You are acting like this does not happen but it does. There are ads at the hunting shows for specific animals at specific measurements! There are plenty of "They's" out there. Sorry.

You made the statement not me so reveal or stop making general statements.dont try and pass the buck to me by saying you would think I should know exactly who they are etc.... you said it so back it up with facts....and post names of those involved....

Yes homework needs to be done no matter the hunt area or country simple.....
Too many people making blanket statements without the balls to name and shame.....

I never acted like it does not happen as it does in any country including USA.....

Name them for the benefit of all here as they are in the minority.....rather simple
Limpopo is big and the majority do not partake.....

I’ve posted the offers posted here in past. You find a different way to avoid acknowledging those. It’s common practice just a part of most Limpopo outfitter’s businesses because competition there is so high even if they have access to quality properties and game for many of their hunts. Pre-measured trophies, introduced trophies, stocked hippos and crocs in small ponds, CBL lions, it’s all the same. A person needs to choose wisely and clearly state and discuss the hunt they want with outfitter because this is all so common. However, then again, if my other assumption is correct I would not expect you to know who any of them are . . .

So it does in USA, etc. Your choice but do not condem the rest.....happens all over the hunting world......
