Welcome aboard Don458. Have you been lurking for a reason or just curious? The connotation of the 458 is unmistakable. Have you hunted Africa previously and or plan to do so in the somewhat neat future? Regardless of your previous experience or lack thereof new members are always welcome. Do you have any specific questions you would like to have us answer?

Hi. I have always dreamed of going to the Dark Continent Maybe in near future. I have read all the great books of past from the masters . I am someone who over does things so I usually research allot thats the lurking. I have a whitworth express 458 that i have been practicing with since 1989 love that rifle . I worked up my own loads with barnes 450gr solids that work great for me . I am currently looking for a 9.3x64 brenneke. A favorite cartridge of mine . But I have allot to learn about. Thank you Don

Don458, have you hunted with your rifle? Most folks would think it is a little large for "target" practice. I have quite a few rifles ranging from 17 HMR to 416 Rigby. Once I get the big bores sighted in I don't shoot them for fun. I do however take them out If I'm about to go on a hunt where they will be used. Why the interest in the 9.3 x 64 Brenneke? That is a rather unusual caliber in the States. I don't own any 9.3(s) but I do own several 35 Whelen(s) which are very comparable. I'm headed off to Africa this coming July and will be taking my 404 Jeffery and a 35 Whelen.

Hi yes i have a while ago I loaded up some 350 gr lead to approximately 45-70 power used during a deer hunt . But now I do practice shooting full power loads quite often. Recoil doesn’t bother me i am lucky. Mostly use my 30/06 during rifle season. But i bow hunt a good 40-50 days year where i live Long Island NY the archery season is 4 months long.

The 9.3x64 was always a favorite. I guess part due to the fact that it is really hard to find I like different things, love the 375 H&H but this is different and little more powerful. I almost won an auction for a barreled action in this cal. But was out bid Was calling CZ custom shop may have them build one for me on a American safari wasn’t bad price. Approximately 1800

Hi Joshlee0518 (please let me know if you are fine being addressed like that),

Thought I would drop you a PM. It is super exciting to plan a hunt and we are more than happy to assist you. Have you given any thought yet to which species you would like to take?

What do you hunt usually and which weapons/calibers are you using?

Look forward to swapping experiences and ideas.

Happy hunting - Daniel

Is this rifle sold? If not what is the weight of it and do you know if there is enough difference in diameter between the 35W and the 9.3 to allow for a rebore to a 9.3x62 which is what I am after?
Thanks,
Gary (Just down the road in Springfield)
