    My Hippo Skull

@Certus- the Ph and Outfitter we hunted with in Tanzania last September has not paid anything to the concession/block owner where we hunted. As a result, they will not release my trophies unless I compensate them directly. I’m obviously not paying twice for that hunt and I don’t believe they...

TANZANIA: Experience With Pano Hunting Safaris?

We did end up hunting with Pano last September in Tanzania and no, not an auction hunt. Absolutely nothing went right and he took us for a ride at every turn. Short of a miracle, I’m confident we will never see the small number of trophies we took. I can say I’ve never felt more unsafe and I’ve...

    Flying with KLM Airlines

Overall, I’m pretty happy with them but our last trip was a mess. While flying to Tanzania in September on check-in they initially didn’t allow me to check my firearm and ammo, stating there were no firearms on this flight. After showing them the restricted baggage on my booking, permits, and...

    Ideal Couger bullet?

I shot mine with a 50 cal muzzleloader and 300 grain 44 cal Hornady XTP’s (in a sabot). Shot was a steep angle up, as he was quite high up a spruce tree. He was dead before he hit the ground, and there was next to nothing for hide damage.

    Animals destroy airplane tires?

In Canada, porcupines can also be hard on vehicles by chewing on tires, hoses, etc. Some staging areas (parking lots) used for multi-day hikes or hunting trips have rolls of wire and rocks available to temporarily fence passenger vehicles in.

Canada bans import / export of elephant / rhino ivory (hunt trophies also)

It’s potentially tied in with their attempts to ban hunting rifles capable of over 10,000 joules of energy. Argument for ownership was they are used for hunting large and dangerous game, such as elephant. It doesn’t stop with this.

    Zanzibar day trip

We are hunting Tanzania in late September and currently have 1 free day in Dar Es Salaam. We’d like to do a day trip to Zanzibar if it’s feasible. Do any of you have recommendations? I’ve googled the subject at length and haven‘t sifted through the spam. Thanks in advance.

    The leupold warranty

I agree! I’ve had Leupold scopes on my rifles for >30 years and have used the warranty a few times, mainly for scopes I’ve bought used. The service has been exceptional. They have a rep and repair center near our home and that is a huge plus. Before that was set up we had to send to the USA...

    Leica Terra ed binoculars

I have a couple Zeiss Terra 10x42s. They are very clear, good at low light, and have been durable. I also bought them on sale and feel they were extremely good value. I do like my Leicas better but they are also much more expensive. I see a couple references in here to Vortex, and in particular...

I’m prepping for an upcoming hunt in Tanzania. I am loading and shooting Barnes 300 gr TSX‘s in my 375 H&H and was asked by my Outfitter and PH to bring along some solids for Hippo. I’d like to find the solids that shoot as similarly as possible to the TSX’s. Should I be looking for Barnes...

TANZANIA: Experience With Pano Hunting Safaris?

Have any of you hunted with Pano Calavrias with Pano Hunting Safaris in Tanzania? He had a cape buffalo hunt donated to an auction of which I looked at and have since dicussed potential options for a hunt. Thanks in advance.

How far do you have to travel to even hunt?

Views from the cabin. We can hunt Elk, Whitetail, Mule Deer, Moose, Black Bear, Wolf, and Cougar in this area. There are Bighorn Sheep on the closer mountain but this unit is closed. We have to travel about 20 kms to get into viable sheep hunting territory.

Are we hunting Warthogs or Cape Buffalo? On day 10, our last day of hunting, we focused on Warthog. Over the last 9 days we had only seen 1 mature boar that was feasible to stalk and I managed to screw that up. We had seen a number of warthogs but most of them were female or young boars. Over...
