Wish I owned a .30-06. I know, sacrilege, especially with another one of Raven Rocks Precision fantastic factory cartridge deals available.

In Ken Burns WW2 documentary, a very unassuming P47 pilot from Minnesota Lt. Harold Comstock recounted in his interview how many fellow pilots that he had personally known had died fighting the German Luftwaffe. Anyway, he recounted on November 13, 1942 at 49,600ft. he dove to escape an enemy...

    Shiloh Sharps 45-90

You might have drawn a Cape Buffalo COW in Africa with 7-8pp? LOL Can you imagine if Africa required pp? It'd be 30 years or more before you could draw a bull buffalo tag and maybe double digit years for even a kudu or gemsbok?

    Shiloh Sharps 45-90

"30 tries (years?) is enough" Wow! Sounds almost like my quest to draw a bull elk tag (26pp) in one of the premium game units here. You should be able to "draw" a buffalo tag in Africa if you have a couple of preference points I would imagine? Maybe even a Sable too with enough points? LOL

Next time just leave the scope on. Put Butler Creek "rubberband" style scope covers over your scope lenses and flip them off if/when you get a shot. I've used them for years in MANY nasty weather conditions. You get snow/ice on the irons and they're useless anyway. FYI.

    Round Chambered…or Not?

Hey, what happened to your scope? You didn't fall down a snow chute did you and lose the scope? I did that once with my .270 WINCHESTER M70 push feed. I banged up my elbows pretty good but I kept the rifle up when sliding down the chute. I think the lighter push feed action saved the rifle. LOL

Best .45 ACP round for black bear protection

Yes. I LOVE my G40 MOS 6"bbl. 10mm and G29 10mm. I put Trijicon night sights on both. Only need a G20 now. The 10mm is hard to beat with 220gr. hardcasts for four legged critters that might bite and 180gr. Sig V- Crowns for two legged fools that aspire to be somebody. LOL

    Round Chambered…or Not?

Actually, the three different RSA "game farms" (main one was 75K acres) I hunted PG on in 2022 had VERY spooky animals. They are hunted quite often and don't stick around very long to get shot. I have hunted elk many times here on DIY public land hunts that have never seen or probably even...

How do you guys handle ear protection whilst on safari?

My "high frequency" hearing loss is acute. I blame it on shooting MANY hundreds/thousands of rounds when dove hunting over several decades without using hearing protection. I have been using the ear valves on a lanyard for years now even when mowing the lawn. When hunting, I use them and can...

375 Ruger conversion to 416 Ruger

I have a .375 Ruger Guide Gun and am looking for a .416 Ruger. Yes, it would be well worth it IMO to see if JES could rebore it to .416.

    .416 Weatherby

Yeah, the brake is very useful for clearing the benches on either side of you at a public range. I use mine for that quite often. LOL

    2 Elephant Hunts Still Available

Oh, I have CZs in .458WM, Lott and .375 and a Whitworth in .416 Taylor, but I bought an AHR #2 CZ .416 Rigby with a 1x6x24 Schmidt and Bender scope on it from a member here back in 2021. I haven't scoped the others because my brain is wired as such not to buy a scope costing more than the rifle...

STUPID question, but what cartridge(s) do you recommend for hunting elephant in a BOLT ACTION rifle. The only big bore I have with a scope on it is a CZ .416 Rigby. Thanks!

    RUSSIA: Kamchatka Brown Bear

Ten years ago, I too would have gone to places that I wouldn't go to now even if I could afford it. Actually, even five years ago many places were much safer and quite different for an American traveler than they are now. I don't mind taking "calculated" risks and I guess the "devil" is in the...

Ruger old model 77 sells for more than current Hawkeye African sells for!

Oh, I get it. This one is "ULTRA RARE" and not just rare. I'm surprised "SCARCE" wasn't in the description somewhere? LOL. And once again some moronic GB buyer will buy it and bury it in his gun safe never to be seen again until his heirs post it on GB AGAIN after his passing.

    RUSSIA: Kamchatka Brown Bear

Congrats on your bears and thanks for sharing EVERYTHING in your hunt report! I have one question: Did you have to pay Yuri or someone else an extra "entertainment fee" for the side tour of the Russian court system and jail time? I'm surprised you didn't have to tip the guards? LOL

    Factory .416 Taylor Rifles

Another probably "perfect" proprietary cartridge: the NEW Winchester .400 Legend. Not only is it a new "ground up" designed cartridge with no parent cartridge, but the bullets are a proprietary .4005 rifle bullet that no one else makes. Perfect! LOL
  34. C

    Factory .416 Taylor Rifles

Interesting. I say that because the proprietary .300 and .338 RCM (Ruger Compact Magnums) based on the .375 Ruger came out in 2008 and Ruger stopped chambering rifles for them in 2012. I don't know if Hornady still makes their proprietary ammo and/or reloading brass for them? And now the .300...

    Factory .416 Taylor Rifles

I agree. But Ruger and Winchester HAVE made some runs in the past of some very obscure cartridges so I guess it could happen if there was enough interest. Hornady would probably have to jump in with producing factory ammo though.
  37. C

    Factory .416 Taylor Rifles

I think the .416 Taylor had a few years in the early ‘70s to become a mainstream DG cartridge when the .416 Rigby rifles and ammo were MIA and no other .416 was readily available. But, Winchester failed to produce ammo for it. If Ruger/Winchester were to make a run of them I would be interested...

    Factory .416 Taylor Rifles

I have a semi custom Interarms Whitworth .416 Taylor with a 23” barrel. Mine is very accurate too and the felt recoil is noticeably milder than my heavier CZ .416 Rigby with a similar load.

    Factory .416 Taylor Rifles

What would you pay for a factory Ruger Hawkeye African (or Alaskan, Guide Gun) or Winchester M70 Safari chambered in the .416 Taylor cartridge? In the early '70s, Bill Ruger and Winchester built prototype rifles for that cartridge and then Winchester dropped the ball on manufacturing factory...
