10.75x68 with a hand loaded 400 gr quality bullet. You get 2150 fps and tonnes of energy in a light rifle with no feeding issues and good magazine capacity. This is essentially original 404 J ballistics which made the round famous. Experts on this site universally agree a bullet of 40 cal...
You would invite credible professionals. No one can predict how they would perform in any given situation so the best training and preparation will hopefully give you a leg up. Each event gives an opportunity to learn something and refine techniques.
You dont get to pick my choices, I do. Cleared of what? What are you clearing the hunters of? Bad first shot? Cleared? I dont think so. They wouldn’t clear themselves either. They would debrief it and train more extensively for the next hunt. Cleared fouling up the reloads? Nope...
The analogy was correct. Yeager would have debriefed his being shot down extensively and had open discussions about it to add to the list of lessons learnt in fighter combat. In life or death endeavors this should be standard practice.
With this logic any fighter pilot who gets his ass shot down did great. I dont think so. Debriefs have a purpose. Saying these guys did great when there are several obvious areas needing improvement serves no one. I have no doubt both of these guys would have plenty to say about what they...
I was referring to a 10.75x68 with hand loaded modern bullets of 400 gr achieving 2100 fps out of a 24 inch barrel. This is routinely achieved. It seems it mirrors the original specs of a 404 J which is what made the round famous. In addition, no feeding issues. IMO there is no real...
If I had a .577 NE DR and needed ammo I would try and set up a concierge service with Lonnie at Superior or go to Ken Owen. In all likelihood they would make up a couple of rounds of several recipes they thought would be close. Once they got close they would continue refining until the load...
How is it you can buy preloaded ammo for a DR and expect it to regulate in yours? Would all loadings for these calibers not need to be custom to the rifle?
I have Kynock unfired brass I’m willing to sell. I also have the berdan primers for them. I also have 19 rounds for full nitro from choice. Jamison brass and what look like Woodleigh FMJs. You would need to deconstruct one to see exactly what it is. Please send a message if interested.

I have a 19 round box from Choice Ammo. Lonnie from Superior took one apart and said it was a full Nitro load. They are FMJ bullets. I have a Greener BPE rile Lonnie helped Regulate with an appropriate load.
With so much at stake I am still scratching my head over all of these bad outcomes where most could be corrected with a preflight of the gear and demonstrated competency prior to the hunt. Instead we exclude the most lethal calibers because African DG hunters can’t be trusted to competently...
Would the PH not ensure you had the proper ammo for the hunt? It’s concerning the frequency of incompetence demonstrated by African hunters where an entire class of lethal weapon is vilified because of it.
I assume the optic on a double rifle is sighted for the regulation distance. This means the POI will be different in both azimuth and elevation for any other distance. I guess this means the Hunter will have had to pattern his rifle for various distances and have that pattern committed to...
If this level of incompetence is so common would it not be prudent for the PH to require a demonstration of proficiency in camp prior to the hunt? I always did this with my kids.
