I open with fingers and close with open palm, maybe that's the problem.

Have you had any issues accidentally knocking your safety into the middle position while working the bolt? I've done it more than once just practicing inside but not when I'm actually shooting but I'm not a big fan of the safety so far.

Papa72 these are the equivalent of the med rings that came with the rifle. Alaska Arms makes a lower set but I can't see how those would like up for me at all. The rings are machined and blued perfectly I can't find a thing to complain about in these rings.

I really like my VX5's but TO MY EYES my Zeiss 4-12 is just a bit sharper or clearer. I've set them up side by side and looked through them until dark and I couldn't get an extra minute of light from one over the other. I just got a set of the AA rings for my African last Friday and they for and look great on the rifle. I like that they're very low profile instead of thick like a lot of new style rings are. I haven't set my scope in yet but the directions with the rings guarantee within 1/4" return to zero.

I got the 416 Ruger, I did luck out last year and find a really nice M70 375H&H. Yeah the ammo selection is pretty sad and 416 brass is nigh impossible to get

I did the exact same thing with my 416 and ended up with the Ruger African instead of a Rigby. There's a video on YouTube a guy called NYprepper shooting his guide gun with a supressor. Like you said it's not a dream rifle but they are a lot of rifle for the money. Congrats on the new rifle
