Have you had any issues accidentally knocking your safety into the middle position while working the bolt? I've done it more than once just practicing inside but not when I'm actually shooting but I'm not a big fan of the safety so far.
Papa72 these are the equivalent of the med rings that came with the rifle. Alaska Arms makes a lower set but I can't see how those would like up for me at all. The rings are machined and blued perfectly I can't find a thing to complain about in these rings.
It wouldn't do for me to have that rifle if get no hunting done for stopping to show everyone my rifle. I can see me in the front of the truck grabbing the PHs arm "stop over there under that tree" PH "what? What you see?" Me "a Baboon at the top that ain't seen my rifle yet!" Lol
Yes sir 30 mm. It's mounted but I didn't get pics yet, I'll post a couple asap. I don't remember if I got the med or low but he said they're the 30 mm equivalent of what came with the rifle. They line up perfect for me
I really like my VX5's but TO MY EYES my Zeiss 4-12 is just a bit sharper or clearer. I've set them up side by side and looked through them until dark and I couldn't get an extra minute of light from one over the other. I like the ballistic reticle on the Zeiss but Leupold has the locking turret...
I just got a set of the AA rings for my African last Friday and they for and look great on the rifle. I like that they're very low profile instead of thick like a lot of new style rings are. I haven't set my scope in yet but the directions with the rings guarantee within 1/4" return to zero.
I got the 416 Ruger, I did luck out last year and find a really nice M70 375H&H. Yeah the ammo selection is pretty sad and 416 brass is nigh impossible to get
I did the exact same thing with my 416 and ended up with the Ruger African instead of a Rigby. There's a video on YouTube a guy called NYprepper shooting his guide gun with a supressor. Like you said it's not a dream rifle but they are a lot of rifle for the money. Congrats on the new rifle

Yes I've used a sling and stick with my 300WM, it doesn't tangle it actually helps imo. I wrap my arm through the sling with the front swivel behind the sticks and it helps put pressure down on the sticks making me more stable. It would depend on what sticks you're using though as some have a...
You know I haven't seen them in pics either....I guess I just associated the wide slings with the heavy rifles and made up my own story lol. I think that T K will go great in my 375
So let's all agree that the cobra style tooled/engraved/carved leather sling looks the best on an African rifle. That's what I've been looking at but they don't allow you to wrap your arms in them very well and I've read that they don't actually hold in place on your shoulder very well (slide...
Tom I think my biggest problem is I'm a victim of those "super magnum" days. Born in 75 I was in my 20's in the late 90's when 'beanfield rifles'were the craze and everything was about FASTER FASTER FASTER! and being a speedfreak myself I loved the big numbers and I thought the Lazzeroni long...
I know there is plenty of hate here for the Weatherby cartridges like 378, 416 and 460 but why does no one talk about or use the 375 RUM? What I've seen looks like it runs on the heels of the 378W, is it to much kick? Lack of availability? Just curious.
I think a 600 may always be out of my willing price range, though I'd love to have a double some day, but the 500, 505, 585, 577's are at least a possibility.
I gotta get off this forum you boys are killin me. I JUST got my first "big bore" a little 416 and after reading this thread yall have me ready to skip the measly 458's altogether and go straight to a 500+. The bad part is I don't even need the 375 or 416 I anyway have I sure don't need a 50 lol
Ok boys I've got a question for yall: doesn't the 338/35 Whelen comparison work similar to the 416/458? Meaning from what I'm reading (mostly from you fine gentlemen) the 416's typically outpenetrate a comparable 458 because of the smaller cross section of a similar weight bullet having the same...
I did start at 50 partly because the older fairly cheap scope is actually a little blurry. I don't think I could even make out the center dot from 100 with it. Today finished off my first box and I have 2 more ordered so now I have to find l a set of 416 dies and some bullets. I'd like to try a...
Ok first 2 actual groups I've shot with the Ruger; please don't judge remember this is my first time shooting a big bore, brand new rifle and off sticks not a bench. I mounted an old Leupo 1-4 and got close enough to center to try a couple groups. You can tell the second group is half the size...
I saw that video, I didn't know you were on this forum. Great video but the Swaro is a bit more than what I'm willing to pay, it's awesome glass just beyond my point of diminishing returns. I'm thinking I need to go with another Leupold. Thanks for your input and the video.
Hey guys on my new Ruger African 416 the barrel is free floated all the way to the action but there is contact at the very front left side where the tip is. The barrel is huge looks like a stovepipe, to a first time big bore owner anyway, so does this pressure matter enough to effect accuracy on...
Scope and rings yes, probably a Leupold vx 5 or 6 1x6. Idk about a mercury pad I don't think it kicks bad enough for that unless I try some of those Buffalo Bore 350's at 2900. My M70 375 scoped is a lot heavier than the Ruger is
Does Warne make qd rings that attach directly to the receiver like the Rugers do? I don't rely want to add a rail to mine. That Lupo vx6 is what I'm looking at too. That it a Trijicon
What are your experiences with these scopes on dg rifles? I just got a 416 Ruger that needs glass, I'm familiar with Lupo and I've talked to Mark about the vx 5 and 6 but the Credo looks really good too. Anybody have experience with both? Thanks for suggestions
Yes sir dead piggies are hopefully right around the corner. I'd like to get my H&H to SA first but it depends on how much I like this 416. I'm trying to decide on the scope, most LPVO's seem to be geared towards the AR crowd and honestly I just can't see $1500+ for a short range scope so the...
It's not the Rigby I've been wanting but it's a first step. I got the Ruger Hawkeye African in 416 Ruger, the smallest of the 416's but she'll do for now and has a durned nice trigger for a dg rifle. Does anybody with experience with these have any advice? Do I need to look at getting it glass...
Does anybody know where I can find a 28 gauge for my daughter to start in? I found a 410 Mossberg mini bantam that will fit her but I'm reading that 410 is a really difficult gun to hit with and I can't 410 shells ANYWHERE. I'm reading that the 28 is a great starter gauge but can't find a gun...
Would the shallow holes hold a dg type scope under the heavy recoil? I think I'd prefer to have a custom barrel anyway, maybe a bit heavier one too take the beast a bit...
Forest why you gotta laugh at me bro? Trying to hurt my feelgoods? I can't help it some of us have more psychological issues than others, do yall think "cartridge attraction" is a thing? I love the 416 Rigby cartridge and all those that are built from it I think. Then ole Roy took that brass...
