ZIMBABWE: Mixed Bag In Matetsi With The Kids - A Short Trip Report

Well done all around, congratulations.

Great seeing your sons along, you all will have memories that the boys will talk about when they are in their 70's. Interesting mixed bag, very productive, did your sons accompany you on the night hunts?

Yes, they enjoyed every second of hunting and only stayed in the camp at the last morning while I was stalking a huge herd of buffalo in the thicket right at the camp…

Great success for you all. The boys did well to adapt to new rifles.

What we also had was some very cool and close sightings of different animals…

great write up and thanks for sharing. awesome that you were able to take your kids. I hope I can do the same someday. congrats on a great safari!

Waidmannsheil to you and your kids!

What an experience for a kid to have. Chasing small game is fun no matter the age.

Did you get the hyena during daylight or at night?

Waidmannsheil to the family :D Cheers:

Well done...all of you!

So far it sounds like you and the boys had a great trip. Which Matetsi unit were you here nting in?

No, we just wanted to utilise every second for hunting so we we were night hunting at the evening on the way back to the camp. My original plan was to hunt for sable and maybe buffalo or elephant but I no success in doing so. Especially the sable hunting was quite frustrating: wether there was not the “very fantastic” bull in the herd or they saw us first and ran away…it’s not so easy to get your animals in this huge free range concessions!
But now there’s a reason to come back ;)
And beside a Sable there’s genet cat and caracal still missing

An excellent trip with your boys! My 6 year old will be traveling with me as soon as he can tolerate a long plane flight.
He was at the range with me this morning shooting his .22.

Trying to be a bridge between Eastern and Western schools of conservation.
From India, based in Hungary.
Nugget here. A guide gave me the nickname as I looked similar to Nugent at the time. Hunting for over 50 years yet I am new to hunting in another country and its inherent game species. I plan to do archery. I have not yet ruled out the long iron as a tag-along for a stalk. I am still deciding on a short list of game. Not a marksman but better than average with powder and string.
