ZIMBABWE: Headed To Dande In Sept With Charlton McCallum Safaris

Thanks Rinehart!

Hunted Cape Buffalo in North Dande in May 1999.
Back then it was owned by Squirrel Swanson. My PH was Phil Smyth Sr. - Fountain Safaris in Nyammadhlovu. Swanson had agreement with Fountain Safaris to bring Buffalo Hunters up to that area. Stayed in the Pedza Pasi camp.

Enjoy hunting the Zambesi Valley!

Kelly G that’s a heck of a Buffalo!
Hi Doug,
This was my first Africa Safari.
My Buffalo was found, tracked, and shot on first morning.
Good thing, only Buffalo we saw the four days I was in the area before moving South for plains game.
No shortage of WILD Elephants in Dande. - saw 31 in 3 days. Some to close for comfort.
Have fun and go with flow.

Good luck and safe travels.

I’m flying from St. Louis in July to Zimbabwe- Bulawayo. Flying United to JNB , overnight at Africa Sky and on to Bulawayo on Airlink. Good prices in Polaris class and fifteen hours is as good as it gets. Good luck on your hunt.

I'll have to look into that route on my next trip. Do you live in St. Louis godwincp? Or just transiting through? Might want to have some beer and swap stories once we're back.

... My buddy and I will leave St. Louis on Aug 25...flying to Houston on United...then onto Dubai - Lusaka - Harare on Emirates. Travel arrangements made by Gracy Travel. We'll spend a night in Harare at the Amanzi Lodge. Anyone have any experience with Amanzi? I'd love to hear about it.
...
You will be leaving as I am coming back (leave the 28th of July, return August 23rd). I am taking Emirates as well, from LAX, arrangements made by Lori (RIP) of Travel Express.

Buzz & Co. are having me spend a night at both ends of the trip at Amanzi lodge as well. It is supposed to be a decent place though all I will need is a bed after a 9 hour flight inbound and a 6 hour drive outbound.

Originally I was going to leave the day after the hunting, drive to Harare, get PCR testing and results in time for my flight back home. However, I thought to myself: "This is Zimbabwe where unexpected can happen" , so decided to spend a night in order to make sure I get the PCR test results in time.

I'll make sure I leave behind a hard boss buffalo and decent size sable for you. ;)

I live in Cape Girardeau and would enjoy getting together. In STL often. I’ll let you know how the United flight goes

Let's plan on meeting after we both get back. Maybe half way....Ste. Genevieve? You can send me a PM anytime. Good luck!!

Yup...that's our plan too. If you'd be so kind please tie a 45" Sable to a tree for me, I'd be in your debt!!

Well, if you need a Sable tied to a tree you need to go a game farm in RSA. :ROFLMAO:

Kidding aside, I hope you get your Sable. The line below (with identical formatting) is from my contract in regards to Sable which has a red asterisk next to it. You are going at the latter part of the season, though the trophy fee of a Sable being greater than of a buffalo I think most will skip them.

"Plains game trophies available only at time of safari depending on success of previous clients. DO NOT count on them"

This won’t apply to a sable hunt that is specifically booked. General plains game like kudu, impala, etc is not booked as a specific hunt.

Thanks Nyati!

We did specifically book Buff and Sable combo hunts. We know that the Sable will be tough. Certainly not a game park situation. I've had opportunities to get one that way and passed. If it's not to be in Dande, then that'll just be my excuse to hunt in Mozambique!

Sounds good!

I hunted with Buzz & Myles in May of 2017 at their Matombo Camp in the Dande area. It was a great hunt and the area is very vast & rugged. The Matombo camp is situated on a high cliff area and it looks down on the Zambezi river with stunning views and sunsets. Here are a few photos of our hunt. We did also overnight at Amanzi very good accommodations & safe. Let me know if you have any questions I will be happy to answer them. And enjoy your hunts!!!

Thanks for the info leopardslayer. Those are some awesome trophies! Buss and Myles haven't decided which of the camps in the North we'll stay at. I kinda hope it's Matombo for the views.

Matombo is beautiful for sure. However, it may be a bit of a drive to where you are likely to be hunting. Maruru is very remote and would be a good choice if the water holds.

Good to know! According to Buzz, water is plentiful this year. Fingers crossed.

I’m glad you started this thread. I’m getting excited about my trip now every time I read this. I don’t normally count days. I usually just let it surprise me, but hard not to think about it now.

Do you have any cull hunts available? 7 days, daily rate plus per animal price?
