ZIMBABWE: D-Day In The Omay (And D Doesn't Stand For Delta)

Congrats on a buff hunted well and good shooting. Sorry to hear about the ele...that's disappointing and a major goal of the trip. I dislike the travel also. Last month was 40 hours to get there. Next month is 24 hours to get to JNB, overnight and then fly to Zim and drive into camp.
I live near Atlanta, so it was a direct flight on Delta to JNB for me. We stayed at the City Lodge inside the airport, so that part was ok. Honestly it's not that bad once you clear security, and get your guns checked in. It's just more of a cumulative effect, when having to check your guns in SA and then twice in Harare. Watching someone who clearly has trouble with math, counting your ammo one by one, is comical and irritating at the same time. To think that your destiny lies in someone's hands who has the IQ of a sweet potato is definitely an experience unto itself. LOL!

Sorry the elephant didn't work out, but a very nice buff @TOBY458!

Great bull brother!

@TOBY458 Well done on the buff, I’m booked Omay North for tuskless July 2024, thanks for the honest post it tells me that tuskless isn’t guaranteed.
Definitely not guaranteed. Just no way of knowing how many of them have dependent calves. You just have to keep looking them over and hopefully you'll find one. Last year I shot one on the first day, and everyone in our group who was hunting them got one. This year was just not our year

Congratulations on your hunt! Happy to see to see you living up to your name.

Have been curious about those bullets for a while. I'm tempted to try them in the 458Lott.

Thanks for sharing!

Congratulations on the Buff! A 458 just eliminates a lot of drama, by killing them deader than the penny-postcard. Surprised to note that it is even legal to kill an impala with .22 WMR! Tho a brother in law said he thought it was as good as any 30-30 in terms of performance.
At the end of the day, you were in fact HUNTING elephant. That in itself is stellar, bucket list stuff!

Nice Buffalo! Sorry about the elephant. I also really hate the trip over and back.

Your safari tale plucks strings with everyone on so many levels. Thanks for sharing.
Congratulations on suffering the fools to make your adventure happen.

The inevitable that we must all confront and manage will be tough going. I wish you the best.

Bummer on your elephant license but very nice buffalo. Congratulations and at least you made it to Zimbabwe as most of us are not. Congratulations

Do they take any trophy elephant bulls there?

Toby thank you for a nice writeup. Sorry the elephant part of the trip was bust on several levels. Sending best wishes for you folks. It is hard.

Congrats on your buff, Toby.

I have to agree with you about traveling to Africa, plus all the unexpected things which may happen, and the hassle of importing anything which says CITES, personally I am at the point of giving up African hunting.

Do i spy (with my little eye) an AK-47 with a bull banana mag leaning against the tree in your 3rd pic?

Good looking bull. Congratulations.

I empathize with you. The older I get the more I dread oceanic flights.
