Looking at a 7 day buffalo hunt with Restless Africa Safaris in Zimbabwe. Hunting will be either in Matetsi or Hwange Reserve. If anyone has any experience with this outfit I would appreciate hearing their thoughts.

It may help people if you have a PH name ??? or Outfitter name?

Professional Hunter and Outfitter is Donovan Steynberg.

I will be hunting with him in a couple weeks. Will file a report when I return.

Looking forward to seeing how it goes. Best of luck.

Well I have been back for a week, and finally getting caught up in the Gun Shop. So, I thought I would get this report out. I'll start right off saying it was GREAT. There were a couple of disappointments, but only one was the fault of Donovan. Our permits for buffalo did not come through for Zimbabwe, so I was unable to hunt a new country. Hunted the Buff in S.A. & the hunt was very cool. Got on the track, they caught movement and ran. Had to circle to get wind right again. Closed to within 100yds, but they were in the shade of the trees. Then crawled on hands and knees to a small bush 40yds away. As we stood up they started feeding at an angle towards us. This Buff was the second biggest, but I liked the wear on the old "Dagga Boys" bosses and one horn. I shot him quartering towards us @ 50yds just inside the left front shoulder. That's when it really got interesting. He ran 30 yds turned & looked right @ us. Jean (pronounced John) the PH said don't move(wasn't about to) he stood there no more than three seconds the other four bulls turned and ran he tried to follow, but fell over dead, too cool. I have the bullet from the 375 H&H, perfect mushroom.
The one mistake that was made was on my Bushbuck, he wasn't really trophy size. Donovan was very fair with me & reduced the fee because of it.
Food prepared by Jean's wife Sharlene was some of the best, and her deserts were fantastic. The room was fine as was the bed. All in all very good service.
My Sable measured 42 1/2 inches and the Kafue Lechwe was 29 1/2. So I am extremely pleased with them.
Donovan and Jean were great fun to be around. Our tracker Lucas was a great guy as well.
I am not really a very good writer, so I'll close for now.
Good Luck Hunting..............

Congratulations on your trophies. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Glad the outfitter came through for you but the fact that they didn't have permits for you in Zim is a humongous issue in my book. I know there has been problems in the Save. Is this where your hunt was supposed to take place or was it a different place?

Thanks again for sharing.

I was supposed to fly to Victoria Falls and hunt Hwange area. I really looked forward to it, but alas, no luck.

Nice to hear that you had a good trip. Enjoyed the report and photos.

That is a shame that Zim didn't work out.... can't believe they didn't have that worked out before hand....

And I always like a Sable that looks like it can scratch it's own butt!!!! Glad you had a great time!

Jim,

The good news is you get to plan another hunting trip and take in the falls! You have some nice trophies there.

All the best.

Jim great buff and sable. The sable is a trophy I want someday and you sure got a good one.

Great looking animals, congrats!

Hi Lance, Hope you well. I collect Mauser rifles and they are very much part of my cultural history in Africa. Would you consider selling the rifle now a year on ? I'd like to place it in my collection of Mauser rifles. Many thx

I saw where you hunted elephant with backcountry safaris in Zimbabwe.
Was looking to book an elephant hunt and wanted to know how your hunt went
and if you would recommend them.

Thanks
Mike
hi, do you know about lions hunters, leopard hunters, and crocodiles hunters of years 1930s-1950s
I'm new to Africa Hunting. I would like to purchase a Heym 450-400 double rifle. I'm left-handed but would prefer a non-canted gun. Is anyone in the community considering parting with theirs?
