Silly question, but will you be able to bring home the lion in any form for a trophy?
@sierraone - Travel back to the States was as normal. US citizens are not required to have a Covid test to fly home on Ethiopian Airways. Furthermore a Covid test is not required for US citizens to reenter the country traveling from Zambia
Other than the long wait for passport control at Dulles everything went very well.
Unlike the US, the airport lounges were open in Zambia and Addis which was nice for the layovers.
We met another couple from Texas traveling back home that had just finished a Safari in Tanzania. It seems that there are quite a few hunters out there taking advantage of some great end of the season specials.
All in all, the travel wasn’t that bad other than the mask mandate.
Ethiopian will not require a Covid test for an American returning home if you are in transit. My understanding is that if you plan to stopover in Addis and clear customs and enter the country you will need a test.I’m headed to Namibia on Sunday morning on Ethiopian Airways from Dulles. My question is- do I need a negative Covid test within 72 hours prior to arriving back in Addis airport (in my transfer back to US)? I know that they will check my 72 hour test while traveling to Namibia there in Addis. Just wasn’t sure if I will need it on the way back.
I have to get tested in Namibia on day five of the hunt but unfortunately I am staying for near 11 days so if I need to test again it will likely need to be on day eight which means driving back and forth to Windhoek (good news is I am only about 1 1/2 hours away from Windhoek where I’m hunting).
Hopefully 2 hours in Dulles going thru passport control will be sufficient as I am not taking a rifle with me.
Thanks for your response and loved the write up!

My connect time was about the same, you'll be fine. Security checkpoint went very quickly both ways. That’s fantastic news as that added test (on top of day 5) would have certainly made things more difficult.
I only have 1 hour and 20 min transit thru Addis on the way to Windhoek and 1 hour and 30 min on the way back. Yikes!. I’ve heard I’ve got to go thru 1 security checkpoint but don’t clear customs so should have enough time. I hope...
