Your favorite new production double rifle manufacturer?

For doubles for me, it is only pre war doubles from the UK.
If I was to venture to a new production double, VC would win hands down as the best value combination of quality and price and reliability. I've shot them all--VC is top choice.

If money is on my side...which it might be if the market performs, a Jeffery underlever in 470NE will have my name on it. I'm not sure of the status of Jeffery rifles as they seem to be in a bit of a state of flux at the moment with some substantive changes in staff...but there are photos of an underlever floating around that is breathtaking.

That is my grail.

Failing that...I bet WR could build it...and may have actually built the one on the net with the WJJ name on it.

So...a WJJ if they are in the business or a WR if they are not.

If money is an issue, Heym rifles are perfectly functional and durable. No problems with a Heym.

they are in business. the name is owned by tom friedkin who has TGT safaris amongst other things. cant remember the name of the person who he has licensed to build them these days , but i have seen their stuff at sci and very nice. only thing is some of the photos he uses on the display are of my 9.4x74r double jeffery, but it was built by paul when he was using the name after he sorted the purchase of the jeffery name for tom friedkin. i mentioned it to the guy when i was on the stand and said you owe me some advertising money....but just got a funny look....:D

Have you had the chance to shot a Heym 89B?

I have just returned from France. I visited VC again. There is just something about those VC's that the German doubles don't have. My opinion off course.

The new Sabatti's imported by IFG and sold by Wholesale Hunter are the best value double you can fine. I own 3 of them in .500 NE, 450/400 NE and 9.3X74R all regulate invincible well. I was hunting with Craig Boddington in Mozambique where I used my 450/400 3" NE to take a buffalo at 70 yards with one shot. Later in the hunt Craig asked me if he could borrow the rifle to shoot his 100th buffalo which he did. If Craig chose a Sabatti to shoot his historic 100th buffalo, that says a lot about his confidence in the gun. I use my 9.3X74R for deer hunting out to 200 yards with a scope. The gun is light and short making it easy to handle in a deer blind.

Blaser S2 470NE is what i shoot currently and i really enjoy it.
however Hyme 577NE or 600NE is very eye catching.
The local dealer here had the Mark Sullavan edition i must say i really liked the sights and the feel of the rifle.

Do you know the price tag on the Sullivan's Heym?
Thank you...

I own VC's in 470NE and 600NE. If I had my time again I'd 100% buy VC again. They're beautiful, well balanced, strong, great options and extremely accurate.

Magnificent, I recall seeing your 600 in the archives here. Thank You.
I can't speak on the 577 from a functional standpoint, it has yet to been used, let alone for it's intended purpose & nothing to compare it by.
It is a stunning build though, excellent fit, weighs a ton.

I have 2 Merkels one in 500 ne one 450/400. And a Krieghoff 470 ne. Both brands are good. For me the Merkels seem to point better than the Krieghoff. Merkel has ejectors an folding express sights. Krieghoff has decocking which is safer wen I’m guiding. If I could only have one it would be the 450/400. Bit less power but faster recovery on second shot and easier to shoot acutely. A well place shot trumps more power in wrong place.

Heym make magnificent doubles, the emphasis being upon engineering principles and functionality. The most beautiful double is useless if it malfunctions, may as well put it on the wall. Having said that Heym can adorn their doubles too if you desire,

B-Dazzle my Heym!

Kevin, I've never seen a Heym in person but have always taken a strong intrigue 88's-89's. equally.
I love seeing photo's when they surface, here or on the market. You've certainly made a wise choice and really look forward to the arrival of yours.
Best Regards, Dan.

Best value: a Chapuis (I have one) or a Heym. I like the look and handling of the Chapuis. Although I have to confess that the VC round body double is really beautiful.
If money is no object, you could close your eyes and pick from Holland & Holland, Purdey, Westley Richards or the Rigby Rising Bite.

I have read on AH you had some time in Vic Falls after hunting. May I ask you with whom you have planned / organized the Chobe NP tour and the different visits. (with my GF we will have 4 days and 3 nights there)
Thank in advance, I will appreciate your response.
