Your favored airline case?

my rifle is 4ft long will it fit?? also would they ship to the UK
Yes it will,,I think a 52" will fit...Look 'em up up on the net under SKB....I would guess they ship there but don't know..Unlike the Tuff Pak it opens on the side with 3 latches..

Pelican without a doubt. Not sure if mine is a 1750 but with the pad locks in place the case has survived over 30 hunting trips from New York to Alaska to New Zealand to Africa you can't beat them.

The camp is split!!Have sent an email to nalpak to get shipping cost to the UK. There is a UK dealer but they want £425 ($650) for the classic!!!!

Tuffpak shipping to Canada was crazy (almost doubled the cost of the case). Got my son, who lives in the US, to bring one as luggage. Hope you fare better.

How long ago was that?? I think they have started to use a different shipping agent from what I can deduce.

Pelican, nearly indestructible. Travel with custom rifles, and so far ( knock on wood) no issues.

I have used a TuffPak for about ten years and very much think it is the way to go. Mine has been to Africa three times and used to travel around the U.S. via airlines about a dozen times. Works great and allows you to pack your guns in soft cases along with your shooting sticks, etc and doesn't scream "gun case" when being transported. Get the separate internal bag to pack your guns in and it is easy to pull guns out and put them back in again if you have to show them to authorities.

Some years ago - maybe 4? Glad to hear they've made some changes.

I've only had SKB and must say the two double cases I have are awesome and have worked well on a couple of trips!

Now Im very confused :A Wacko: Can you pack ammo in a locked box in your tuffpak with the rifle or not?? I thought you could as they are both separate and locked?? Im hoping you can as I was rather liking the idea of everything being in the one bag and being an ex serviceman I tend to pack light anyhow.

Ziegel Engineering in Long Beach CA makes excellent gun cases in many capacities. I've traveled many thousands of miles and the cases have never failed.

On my last trip to S Africa I decided to use a locking metal cash box for my ammo. TSA called me back from the FC lounge, had me open the box and opened every ammo box (6) because their x-ray machine couldn't penetrate the metal.

Departing Joberg it was not a problem.

Ziegel Engineering will also make custom cases to your specifications. I've got several and they've served me well in my travels for many years and many miles.

They are actually located in Signal Hill, CA, or at least that's where the manufacturing facility is located (Signal Hill does border Long Beach).

Check with your airline that you plan to fly. But mostly the ammo needs to be packed separately from the firearm in a separate case or box. But most airlines allow the ammo to go into your checked luggage, but be prepared for it to travel by itself as a separate piece of luggage. This happened to me on my return from Port Elizabeth in SA. The required the ammo box to go with the rifle case, not inside it but as a separate piece of checked baggage. There was no extra fee and once I retrieved my rifle case, ammo box, and checked bag in Johannesburg I just put the ammo back inside my checked bag for the flight back to the US.

has anybody flown with SAA with a tuffpak 1050 and have to pay extra due to size?? Ive been doing the maths and you go over the size allowance by 14.79 inchs!! Is there a chap with a measuring tape??

No extra chargethat I've ever heard of. And I haven't been charged in two trips.

As far as the ammo in the case goes, in my experience it has to be separate for international. Now here in the states, I always put my ammo in the tuffpak.

I have been using a "Personal Property" rider on my State Farm homeowner's policy to cover guns when I travel with them.
I have several firearms, but only one is worth over $20K (A Heym double rifle).
Very interested.
Would firearms be covered for damage, as well as, complete loss?
I'll can let the State Farm rider cover my watches...

trperk1, I bought the Kimber Caprivi 375 back in an earlier post. You attached a target with an impressive three rounds touching 100 yards. I took the 2x10 VX5 off and put a VX6 HD Gen 2 1x6x24 Duplex Firedot on the rifle. It's definitely a shooter curious what loads you used for the group. Loving this rifle so fun to shoot. Africa 2026 Mozambique. Buff and PG. Any info appreciated.
