Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

.30-06
8x57JS
9.3x62
(Honorable mentions to .22 WMR and .375 H&H Mag)

And a little something just for fun: :)

257 weatherby, 300 winmag, 450-400, with the 375h&h and 30.06 next for hunting rifles.

7x64 for everything in Europe
9,3x62 for wild boars and woodland hunting for bigger species in Europe
.375h&h for fun in Europe (haven’t had the pleasure of taking it to Africa yet)

LOL, I now have only 3 bolt guns (and 2 DR):
Sako 85 in 500 Jeffery
Custom Montana 1999 in 458 Lott
Blaser R8 with 8 barrels - 22lr, 223REM, 240WBY, 270WSM, 30-06 SPRG, 300WBY, 338WM, 9.3x62

257 AI 110 AB
338/06 AI 225 AB
475 Linebaugh 420 grain Monolithic

I know, light, and needs correct placement of the shot, but the 475 for a backup is proven poison, with quick 5 shots for those able to master it, and handle any threat.

6.5x54MS out of a 1903 carbine
.303Brit out of SXS SLE
.404J out of a bolt
16ga out of an SXS SLE

And naturally

12ga!

My Africa list changes with the wind and the seasons. But I think these will cover everything I would intend to hunt today,...I like the bigger cartridges. For me, the benefit outweighs the recoil.

Today:
- 340 Weatherby
- 416 Rigby
- 500 N.E.

.257 Ackley
.30 Gibbs
7mm RM
.300 Wby

Haven’t been to Africa, so keep that in mind, but mine are:

.303 British: my first centerfire cartridge and still favorite; vast majority of my whitetail, and one terribly unfortunate raccoon have met their demise with it

.30/40 Krag: pair with plaid cap and briar pipe and and you can feel the old school Field and Stream cover come alive around you. Good solid knockdown too.

.30/30 out of a Winchester 94. Just something about this setup

What is the minimum you would take.

I have a Chapuis 450-400 double that looks brand new and shoots well, never been hunted from what I can tell. I am willing to part with it as I have a 375 H&H Sodia on it's way from Dorleac & Dorleac. I am looking for $9,250 for it and if you are interested, I am happy to send you some pictures. Regards,
Steve
