Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

I'm a little late to the party, but couldn't make up my mind.
#1 - 35 Whelen
#2 - 7mm 08 or a 6.5/06
#3 - .22
I know there are no "African" calibers here. Assuming I didn't own a .375 H and H and assuming that I was going to hunt DG in Africa I would have to rent a rifle. I'm not that guy that can go there every year...:-)

6.5 x 54 ms (or grendel) but definitely 6.5 over the 22’s
338 win mag ( I load this up and down to fill the gaps from 308- 9,3)
404 Jeffery- a mans gotta have style...

My most current battery:
6.5 x 55 Swedish Mauser ( light weight medium long range shooting/hunting)
8 x 68S Mauser ( medium to heavy /bush caliber /long range heavy /thick skin animal hunts?
404 Jeffery Ultimate Dangerous game hunting, small to medium to heavy plains game hunting)

8 x 68s = German version of the 338 win mag. Both under rated for African Hunting....
John , I think it is due to the .338 Lapua Magnum as a choice military /civilian rifle used for long range shooting ...not associated by the Africa hunter dangerous game and plains game ...although I saw videos where a group of followers of the .50 caliber Browning rifle is use for long distance hunting on larger game like Moose and Elk...it is also true that some Africa Dangerous game hunting /PH fraternity make use of the .338 Winchester like John Coleman if I am not mistaken...there maybe more persons ..

The 8x68S as a local /original developed in Germany , it has a extremely large following in Europe...in Africa there was periods where the Colonial systems brought about the extensive use of the Mauser rifle in the 8x57 JS/ 8x68S/9.3x62 calibers as all time favorite greats in countries in Africa like , South Africa, Botswana, Namibia as we know it today...where German influence was strong then...currently in South Africa if you want to buy a 8x68S at Classic Arms in South Africa ( they have it available ) it really are very expensive to purchase....what is interesting is the 8x60 Mauser caliber that seems even more expensive than the 8x68S by times...I think it is likely that you will be able to ream the chamber to a 8 x 68 S caliber that ensure these excessive high prices in these calibers...
8X68S caliber hunting rifles are not common in South Africa , hunters/collectors who own them do not sell them, all the 8x68S rifles Johan Greyling build on order has been sold ...there are more orders in this 8x68S caliber coming in...an owner of a gun shop in Krugersdorp told me he is using his 8x68S rifle to compete in the 1000 yards shooting competitions ..

Not sure I can answer that question, as it changes from week to week but:
7x57
30-06
375 Ruger
338 Win.

And a host of others...

0.22, because we shot it as kids out of a Savage single shot.
30-30, because it is so classic, does what it does really well and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Out of a Marlin at present, but one day I might find a light double.
375 Flanged Magnum, because it is enough, but not too much. Out of a double of course. I am just beginning my journey with this cartridge.

I will limit myself to rifle cartridges.
22 LR
300 Win Mag
375 H&H
I looked back to see what I thought almost 2 years ago to see if I'd change my mind...

Still 22lr
Still 300WM
Change out the 375H&H for the 416RM...'cause it kills 'em dead-er.

If it were only three calibers
6.5 X 55 SE
.30-06
9.3 X 62

Second alternative
6.5 X 68
300 Win Mag
340 Wby Mag

Light calibre
7 mm Remington Magnum
Medium calibre
.338 Winchester Magnum
Heavy calibre
.458 Winchester Magnum

I saw you were looking for some Swift A-Frames for your 9.3. I just bought a bulk supply of them in the 285g. version. If Toby's are gone, I could let 100 go for $200 shipped you are interested.
Thanks,
Gary

Booked with Harold Grinde - Gana River - they sure kill some good ones - who'd you get set up with?
