Would you be happy?

My take on it is that everyone walked away alive.

But then that's the PH's job, to take care of things when it gets western.

I’d be totally pissed that I shot too far back on the first shot, with myself, not the PH. Once the buff is wounded the PH has to do whatever is necessary to finish the job. The buff had already charged once, they had to assume it would do so again. If the hunter wanted to finish the job he should have been walking in the PH’s back pocket. I get the impression from the video that the hunter was not keen to be on the tip of the spear.

No, I would not be happy, but the displeasure would be at myself, not at the PHs. I would however be thankful that no one was injured or killed and buffalo was recovered and didn't have a long lingering death.

I’m with Roklok. Any displeasure would be with myself for my shot putting the PHs and myself in subsequent danger. I know if you hunt buffalo long enough, it happens, but not looking forward to when it does.

And then I’d also be kicking myself for not getting a shot off when he charges us, especially if everyone else did, grumpy with myself and not the PHs. I’d expect them to exert all necessary efforts to protect themselves and hopefully me.

When they put in the initial insurance shots, I wouldn’t be mad, I mean I’d prolly still be 10-steps behind them taking the opportunity to clean my shorts right quick from the right horn barely missing my groin.

Completely agree.

It looks like the PHs were trying hard to get the client a second shot at the buff before the charge happened, and the client appeared to have a decent chance to get a second bullet in the buff that did not happen for some reason. Once the charge happened, the PHs took care of business.

If you were the hunter, and the PH had to deliver the kill?
Im a firm believer in dont suck. If you train and practice to make the first shot count under stress you always revert to your lowest level of training. Wich minimises negative outcomes.

Secondly its bad advertising for PHs when their paying customers die. And since their job is ensuring safty of the folks hunting. I think we can for the shooter at least..

Revert to dont suck and the PH wont have to shoot.

Although great video and looked like a great hunt to me id love that experience.
That old guy looked pretty shook tho and not really up to par.

I haven’t hunted buffalo (yet), but my instruction to the PH would be if they feel the need to shoot, then shoot. You track and hunt them as a team, sometimes they need bringing down as a team too. Buffalo hunting to me isn’t a place for egos or individuals.

If I didn’t know how to load the rifle myself, made a poor shot, failed to get another shot off and fell down on the ground when the animal retaliated, only for the ph to save the day, yeah I guess I should be happy.

I watched it but couldn’t really sort out what was going on. WTH? Hunter going on a DG buffalo hunt with an orange hat and orange camo jacket? May tell all you need to know about the hunter. I dunno?
IMO, they should all be happy no one was injured or worse!
Yes, wearing red???!!! Might as well put a target on yourself.

HAPPY

Now that wasn’t to hard eh OP?

It definitely didn’t give me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the hunter getting his rifle loaded for him and instructions on how to work the safety.
I don’t think that the PH’s had much confidence or trust in the hunter either, that may be why they took the shots when the bull was hidden in the bush possibly averting another charge but that’s only a guess.
As for me I would be disappointed in myself, the PH’s did their job. The bull died and everyone went home unharmed.

My concern is more with the safety of the trackers and the PH’s.
If I screw up and get hurt so be it, it would be tough to live with if I screwed up and someone else was hurt due to my incompetence.

Pop used to say "When in doubt, make sure his lights are completely out". In this case there were loads of doubt. I concur with the majority, PH needs to arrest a potentially deadly situation.

GUESSING CAMP GUN HUNTER WASN'T FAMILAR WITH
Probably so but all of that should’ve been taken care of on the range not at the beginning of a stalk for buffalo.
It probably was but shouldn’t be included on the video.

Jerome, do you think my last post in rough camping must maybe shift as an article?

Good afternoon,

I'm trying to get in contact with Mr Butch Searcy. I have the opportunity to buy one of his rifles chambered in 577 nitro Express however the seller does not have any of the paperwork with the information about what ammunition or bullet weight was used to regulate it. I know he is not making firearms anymore but I wanted to reach out after seeing one of your post about him.

Hi - the only (best) method of sending you the .375/06IMP data is with photographing my book notes. My camera died so the only way I can do it is with my phone. To do that, I would need your e-mail address, as this
new Android phone is too complicated to upload to my desk computer, which would be easier and to down-grade, reduce the file sizes.
Best wishes
Daryl
