Wire transfer company?

I hunted in South Africa last summer and am having a hard time getting wire transfers to work. The taxidermist sent me the account info and I need to send the deposit but since the account goes to a company and not an individual it is getting flagged as possibly fraudulent. This was with Moneygram, has anyone had luck with any other companies? Or any other ideas on how this could work?

I even use a credit union, and it works fine. Might want to set up a separate travel/hunting account with a large bank group that does this sort of thing routinely.

Agree go to a federal credit union or use another bank. My bank allows me to wire money out of the country (within limits) using the app on my phone so I can do it in country or at home, sitting in my truck, etc.

Timely post OP. Thank you.
I've wired to other countries but will take this as a heads up to check with my bank for S Africa.

I have wired money to SA from my bank and my credit union. Money went to pay for taxidermist, freight company, and my hunt. No issues so far.

You need a local bank to work with. Sending a wire should be as easy as any other banking transaction just with a detailed form to fill out.

I’d suggest opening an account at a different bank. I’ve had issues sending to Zimbabwe but South Africa shouldn’t be an issue. I’m guessing this is a very small bank?
It's actually the big banks that are a PIA from what I've seen.

We did, our bank will not send to south africa
Get a new bank. Seriously, why do business with someone like this? I deal with this very often with my safari groups. An international wire should be an easy daily task for a competent bank.

The federal reserve is really scrutinizing all international wire transfers over $5,000
especially to central and south America and Africa. Large banks are a real PIA as most is done thru
branch banks who have personal with no experience doing this. The smaller home town banks usually have a main bank that actually has a dept that handles them!
Encourage your outfitter or shipper to have a US bank account setup to handle the funds which can transfer large sums directly to them. Shippers that have US based offices that specialize in Africa usually do pretty well but communication is often poor and done by email requesting forms etc be filled out and sent back to them and they frequently are lost in the shuffle causing delays.
South Africa is going to be more of a problem due to their government and as a result I'm personally avoiding them even for travel!

My bank is a smaller regional type of a bank with branch offices throughout the state.

I have sent wire transfers with them to South Africa with no problems at all except for the added expense of a foreign transfer.

The biggest problem that I have seen is that the tellers or customer service people have never done a foreign transfer and get all flustered at the thought of it. Even on my last trip when I needed to get some 4457's and copies motorized the person that I was dealing with said that was out of her knowledge base, but after a couple of phone calls she took care of everything that I needed to get done.

It is nice when the outfitter has a bank here in the US that you can transfer funds to, it makes it a lot simpler. Plus my last outfitter was also the taxidermist so that made payment to them just as easy.

I am sorry to hear you are having these frustrating issues!! Truist has always been able to wire my funds for me, for free. Another local bank wants 80.00 for an international wire transfer.

Have you tried Xoom?? It’s the PayPal wire transfer service. I have used it a couple times and it worked well.

Back After a Long Time – Hello Again!

Hi everyone,

I’ve been a member since 2015 but haven’t been active since 2017. Life got busy, especially with building my second business. Still, I’ve kept my passion for hunting and followed things from afar. Now that I have more time, I’m excited to reconnect, contribute, and be part of the community again.

All the best,
ANDY

I'd like a bag of 100. I could actually pick it up since I'm in North Irving, but if you prefer, shipping it is fine.
